Rams Send Everything But The Kitchen Sink To Detroit For Matthew Stafford

I was very tempted to post about this huge trade that landed the Rams the quarterback that they have needed last night, but I decided to sleep on it.

Let's cut to the chase. The Rams had gone as far as they could with Jarod Goff at quarterback. The front office made a huge mistake by giving him a huge contract after two really good seasons (2017 & 2018) when they really didn't need to. Rams coach Sean McVay did everything he could to design an offense that payed to Goff's strengths and minimized his weaknesses. Even so the young passer player very inconsistently and ultimately committed way to many baffling turnovers.

It became very apparent as the last season progressed that McVay was growing more and more frustrated with Goff. His mindboggling interception against the Seahawks in week sixteen seemed to cause the pot to boil over. On the play Goff rolled to his right and had a ton of yardage in front of him. Instead of tucking the ball and picking up as many yards as he could with his legs, Goff threw to an open part of the field where a Seattle defender was waiting for the pick. What made this worse was the fact that the Rams were in the Red Zone and it was first down.

In a strange twist of fate, Goff would break his right thumb later in that game which gave McVay the opportunity to bench Goff for the next game vs the Arizona Cardinals. In that game the Rams would lean on the very inexperienced quarterback John Wolford who played very well. In fact it seemed like the chains that had been holding the Rams offense down were lifted. Ultimately the play of the more athletic Wolford gave a glimpse of what the offense could look like if Jarod Goff was not under center.

After the season ended it took very little time for the Rams to publicly give Goff a vote of no confidence and publicly announce that they were looking to trade him and his massive contract somewhere else.

Secretly behind the scenes a love affair was brewing between Rams coach Sean McVay and a disgruntled quarterback in Detroit named Matthew Stafford. McVay studied the game tape and saw the skills he coveted in a quarterback. Stafford saw a system and a group of core players that he knew could take his game to the next level.

Hence the anatomy of a whopper of a trade were born.

The Rams sent Goff, two number one draft picks and third round pick to Detroit for Stafford. A huge price to pay for sure, but in the end both sides got what they wanted and hopefully both teams will benefit from the deal.

Here is what the Rams will be getting in Matthew Stafford:

It is apparent from those highlights that Stafford can make the kind of throws that Jarrod Goff wouldn't even attempt. As a fan I can't wait to see what kind of offense McVay can draw up to suit Stafford's strong arm.

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
