Louisiana Through My Lens | A Summer Afternoon On The South Shore of Lake Pontchartrain
Last week I decided to pull off the highway on my trip from New Orleans to Slidell and check out the south shore area of Lake Pontchartrain. Right before you enter the Twin Span Bridge that crosses the lake there is an opportunity to exit onto Highway 11 in an area known as Irish Bayou. The area is populated by a lot of fishing camps, most of them abandoned, and relics of old docks. The area reminded me a lot of the Salton Sea area of Southern California with its old boats and abandoned buildings. You could tell that the area was once prosperous, but decades of hurricanes and storms had left the area broken a battered. There are a few hearty souls still holding on, but once they are gone, I doubt that anyone would want to settle here.
