Louisiana Through My Lens | A Summer Afternoon On The South Shore of Lake Pontchartrain

Image
Last week I decided to pull off the highway on my trip from New Orleans to Slidell and check out the south shore area of Lake Pontchartrain. Right before you enter the Twin Span Bridge that crosses the lake there is an opportunity to exit onto Highway 11 in an area known as Irish Bayou. The area is populated by a lot of fishing camps, most of them abandoned, and relics of old docks. The area reminded me a lot of the Salton Sea area of Southern California with its old boats and abandoned buildings. You could tell that the area was once prosperous, but decades of hurricanes and storms had left the area broken a battered. There are a few hearty souls still holding on, but once they are gone, I doubt that anyone would want to settle here.

Union Pacific EMD SD70ACe Heritage Locomotive #1982 Missouri Pacific | Alexandria Louisiana

Image
On Monday I was lucky enough to catch the Union Pacific Heritage Locomotive #1982. painted in Missouri Pacific colors, on the lead of a train sitting idle just north of the yard in Alexandria, Louisiana. It took some creative driving to be able to find a parking spot near enough for me to walk to a location to get these shots. Despite the extreme heat it was worth the efforts to get shots of this beautiful locomotive.

Python swallows woman whole in Indonesia | Strange But True

Image
Not the actual victim - stock photo You here about stuff like this in movies and comic books, but you never believe it could happen in real life! From FOX News: A missing woman was found eaten alive by a massive python after locals cut her body out of the snake in Indonesia . Farida, 45, went missing on Thursday night. Her body was discovered inside the reticulated python Friday by her husband and residents of Kalempang village in South Sulawesi province, a local official said, according to AFP. The search for the missing mother of four began after she failed to return home Thursday night, village chief Suardi Rosi told AFP. Her husband "found her belongings… which made him suspicious. The villagers then searched the area. They soon spotted a python with a large belly," Suardi said. "They agreed to cut open the python's stomach. As soon as they did, Farida's head was immediately visible."

Louisiana Through My Lens - Trains Around The Pelican State - Spring 2024 Edition

Image
Living in Louisiana offers a railfan like myself so many great opportunities to photograph a great variety of different and unique trains in action due to the fact that every Class 1 Railroad in North America operates here. Over the past few months I have managed to grab and handful of train photos, most of them taken of CPKS trains in Leesville due to the fact that I have been doing a lot of work lately in the area. I honestly haven't been concentrating on taking pictures like I used to. I have been really trying to focus on taking images of cool abandoned locations and nature shots that showcase just how beautiful this state truly is. That being said, when an opportunity to get a good train shot presented itself, I took it.
