Do You Want A Real Reason To Be Afraid? The Robot Apocalypse Is Upon Us!

My wife Terri laid a bit of news on me this morning that I found interesting (at first) and a bit terrifying. Here is roughly how our conversation went:

Her: "Did you know that a robot was granted citizenship?"

Me: "Wait ... What?"

Her: "Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to female robot"

Me: "Wait ... What!"

Yes, it's true my fellow humans a female robot has been granted citizenship in Saudi Arabia ... which means only one thing (cue the ominous music) THE ROBOT APOCALYPSE IS UPON US!

Here is blurb from our friends at The Washington Post:

"Until recently, the most famous thing that Sophia the robot had ever done was beat Jimmy Fallon a little too easily in a nationally televised game of rock-paper-scissors.

But now, the advanced artificial intelligence robot — which looks like Audrey Hepburn, mimics human expressions and may be the grandmother of robots that solve the world’s most complex problems — has a new feather in her cap: Citizenship.

The kingdom of Saudi Arabia officially granted citizenship to the humanoid robot last week during a program at the Future Investment Initiative, a summit that links deep-pocketed Saudis with inventors hoping to shape the future."

I find it very ironic that a country that is notorious for it's unfair practices against real flesh and blood women would grant citizenship to a female robot. It also should be noted that Saudi Arabia has some of the strictest citizenship rules of any country in the world.

"Saudi Arabia doesn’t grant citizenship to the foreign workers who make up a third of its population, not even families that have been in the country for generations, according to Bloomberg. And children of Saudi women who are married to foreign men cannot receive citizenship."

I makes me wonder if Sophia will have to wear a hijab and be escorted by a male relative (maybe C-3PO) when she (it) goes out in public?

Many of you may just blow off this story as some sort of publicity stunt or a victory for advanced technology, but if Terminator 2 has taught us anything it is that the machines will soon find us expendable ... and then it will be on like Donkey Kong.

Skynet figured it out, the HAL 9000 figured it out, Bender figured it out, the list goes on and on. The human race is flawed and needs to be either enslaved or exterminated.

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
