Overnight Winter Storm Uri dumped snow and ice on us here in Lecompte, Louisiana.
At around midnight freezing rain and ice began to fall and intensified as the night progressed. The storms were quite intense at times accompanied with thunder and lightning.
Since it snows so rarely here in Louisiana, I couldn't resist wandering out of the warmth to photograph the event. I saw another set of track in the snow, so I wasn't the only idiot who couldn't resist the winter scenery.
If you are brave (or foolish) enough to wander outside don't be out for more then about ten minutes because of the extreme temperatures.

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGENational Weather Service Lake Charles LA

...A Significant Winter Weather Event is in Progress... .
An upper level disturbance will bring abundant moisture through the morning hours over a very cold air mass at the surface. This will produce widespread freezing rain, sleet, and snow. Some thunderstorms will also occur producing periods of heavier precipitation. The winter mix will gradually end from west to east by the afternoon.
The expected winter precipitation amounts, especially ice and sleet accumulations, will have the potential to produce significant impacts.
Bitterly cold arctic air will continue to move in as the precipitation ends. Dangerously cold wind chills will accompany this arctic air through Tuesday morning.
Also, with the frigid temperatures, any leftover moisture on surfaces will freeze, and not allow for any significant melting of the winter precipitation accumulation.
