I have to admit that I really miss living a mere three-hour drive away from the hotels, attractions, casinos, eateries and shopping on the Las Vegas Strip. There really isn't anything like it anywhere else on the planet. You don't even have to gamble or take in a show to be entertained here. I have actually spent an evening on the strip just looking at the sights and watching people. It was several hours of quality entertainment and it didn't cost me a cent.
If you really want to see some wacky stuff try wandering around the Strip at 4 am after the bars and clubs start to wind down.
A few years ago I walked around the Strip with my camera and shot some interesting sights that most tourists simply miss rushing from casino to show to restaurant and then back to casino again. Most of the pics were taken at the Forum Shops at Caesars Palace (Hotel and Casino) which is the premiere shopping experience in the southwest. Most shopping centers don't contain exact copies of Roman statues and indoor shops that through brilliant special effects make you swear you are actually outside. Again, its a place that you can be sufficiently entertained without spending a cent.
