You could literally walk an hour in any direction and not hit a single object. If it wasn't for the road this location would be as barren as any place on Earth. To be honest I couldn't even make out where Granite Road actually was? Like I mentioned there wasn't anything for miles in every direction.
I guess that you could think of Granite Road as the proverbial road to nowhere.
You may wonder why I stopped in such a desolate place to take photographs? If I'm honest I would have to admit that it was the street sign in the middle of the desert that caused me to pull over. After standing there for a few moments, however, I discovered that there was more here to see than initially meets the eye.
Where most would people would see absolutely nothing I saw distant mountains, wispy clouds, dry cracking soil, and an amazing desert view that stretches for miles. A scene that is truly beautiful.
There is some true irony in this post. As I sit here in Louisiana typing away there is a thunderstorm raging outside. It's a stark contrast to these dry desert scenes that I am reminiscing about. I can't help but contrast and compare how polar opposite the the conditions were in California versus how things are in Louisiana. Dry and arid compared to very humid. Hardly any rain compared to way too much rain. Wide open spaces compared to forests so thick you can't see ten feet in front of you.
Polar opposites indeed.
What you need to understand is that both locations are wonderfully beautiful for numerous reasons.
What I discovered by standing at the corner of Barstow Road and Granite Road in the middle of the California desert is that the 'middle of nowhere' was a much more amazing place than advertised. Maybe we should all seek out places like this? It's the kinda place where you can find peace and some true beauty if you look hard enough.
