Photos and Story by Ken Hulsey
A couple of weeks back, I was passing through Kinder, Louisiana, when I spotted Union Pacific Heritage Locomotive #1982 switching a block of railcars onto a siding. I was surprised to see such a locomotive relegated to switching duties. I pulled off the highway to get a few shots of the locomotive, which is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
Luckily, the crew was exiting the train and climbing into a car parked next to the tracks. They had neglected to close the locomotive's front door, and though I was tempted, I resisted the urge to climb inside after they drove off.
Back in June of last year, I had captured some great shots of #1982 as it pulled a train through Alexandria.
