Abandoned Louisiana: Murray Gins in Caddo Parish

Last week while traveling down Highway 1 from Shreveport to Natchitoches I spotted a couple of interesting locations to photograph but unfortunately heavy traffic on the road made it hard to be able to pull over. Luckily for me this week there was little to no traffic so being able to maneuver around and find a place to pull over was much easier.

The first location was an old cotton gin facility. The sign on one of the buildings read Murray Gins so I assumed that was the name of the company that ran this particular gin. I did an extensive search of the internet this morning and I could find absolutely no information about a Murray Gins operating in Caddo Parish. The only information that I was able to find was that Murray Gins was founded in 1900 in Dallas, Texas and that they operated cotton gins all over the country. There was no information about when the company went out of business, so I really can't make any kind of guess to when this particular gin may have closed down.

Likewise, I was unable to find any information at all about a similar looking facility several miles further down the road. That facility is almost invisible due to the fact that it is almost completely covered with vegetation. If you look really closely you can make out some of the structures underneath all the over growth.

If you know any information about either of these locations please feel free to message me so that I can update this article.
