I have to admit that Shreveport is probably my favorite city in Louisiana. Visually there are a lot of stunning contrasts and as a photo journalist walking around the city provides tons of opportunities to capture some thought provoking images. I spent a brief time in downtown Shreveport this week and I got a ton of really great pictures. The area has a lot to take in, there are tons of abandoned old buildings (which you can find in every city and town in the state), preserved historical landmarks and modern art and architecture.
I tend to gravitate more towards the historical and the abandoned so much of what you see here focuses on that. I have discovered over the years that I really love old buildings and downtown Shreveport has a lot of interesting ones.
I love this blurb that I found on Shreveport's Downtown Development Authority website:
... eat, drink, play and soak in history- in the heart of northwest Louisiana and the tristate region. We’re where it all began…where oil and water DID blend, where cotton began its long dusty journey up the Texas Trail, where fortunes were made (and lost), where mayors drew pistols in the middle of the street.
We are made of equal parts colorful history, present day pluck and optimism about our future; we combine the best of Texas tenacity and Louisiana laissez le bon temps rouler. Opportunities abound. Historic buildings beckon. If you know what you want, we can help you find it, and if you don’t know, we’ll help you figure it out. We’re a pretty #CoolDowntown, y’all.
I think that pretty much sums up the history of the area.
Maybe that's what I like about Shreveport so much, it's as much equal parts Texas as it is Louisiana. I'm sure that my fond memories of my younger days in northern Texas (Vernon) has lot to do with it subconsciously.

Here are my photos. Normally I don't post this many shots but I really liked these so I wanted to share them with you.
