To be honest I was tipped off that the Kansas City Southern Executive Train may be in Baton Rouge today by a fellow railfan on Facebook, but I was thrilled to see a set of vintage FP9/F9B diesel locomotives resting on a bridge over the 110 freeway while driving towards downtown.
My love for for the F series locomotive prompted me to travel down some of Louisiana's poorest designed streets (and that's saying something) to a point near the railyard where I then plotted my way threw a jungle that belongs somewhere in Borneo only to have traverse a steep hill to to reach the railyard.
Note: I did not travel past the "No Trespassing" sign in order to take these photos.
I managed to due this without being bitten by a snake or God knows what.
My jungle odyssey paid off and I was treated to photo shoot with the beautifully painted locomotives and the perfectly restored passenger train behind them.
Railroad history buffs would be quick to point out the despite the fact that the KCS once owned a very large fleet of F Series diesel-electric locomotives the three units here (FP9 #KS1, F9B #KS3, and FP9 #KS2) actually came from the Canadian National Railroad through Canada's passenger train railroad VIA.
