On the property of the Southern Forest Heritage Museum in Longleaf, Louisiana lies a graveyard of old steam locomotives that belonged to Crowell & Spencer Lumber Company in the late 1950s. There are at least five such locomotives in pieces on both sides of what used to the Red River & Gulf line that ran into Lecompte. The debris belongs to known locomotives Crowell & Spencer Shay locomotives 1 & 2, Alexandria Lumber Company 2-6-0 #3, Crowell & Spencer 2-6-2 #200 and Meridian Lumber Company Shay #112. It is believed that there may be more locomotives strewn across the woods.
The location of the graveyard is mere few feet from abandoned Crowell & Spencer Locomotive #400, which along with two other locomotives were spared.
The mere volume of locomotive debris is very overwhelming!
