 Written By Ken Hulsey Last night, while in Shreveport, I found myself craving something for dinner but couldn't decide what exactly I wanted. Seeking inspiration, I turned to the internet to see which local eateries had received favorable reviews. Mexican food was an option, but I have that often. Chinese food was a possibility, but my wife likes it, and I didn't want to go without her. Then I remembered Indian food - something I hadn't had in a long time.

 Story and Photos By Ken Hulsey Over the past couple of years, I've reviewed various pizza, burger, and Mexican food restaurants, both fancy and fast-food. Today, I'm excited to rave about one of the coolest food establishments I've ever stepped into: Cajun Saucer Pizza. This joint boasts some of the most eclectic decor this side of a filling station on the intergalactic space route from Jupiter to Magrathea . While I do intend to discuss the food, I'll actually spend the bulk of this piece talking about the wall coverings, tiki gods, and - most notably - the lighting fixtures. If there was ever a pizza palace that looked like it was decorated by yours truly, it would be Cajun Saucer.

 This one actually comes as a recommendation of my wife Terri who ate there with her sister and our daughter a couple of years back. From  Michael's Kitchen Taos   Considered one of the best restaurants in town, Michael’s Kitchen has been in business since 1974, and some original staff members remain. Owner Derek Apodaca says, “My wife Gina and I bought the restaurant in 2005. We once had a customer say that he had been here in the 70’s and was amazed that nothing had changed. He even had the same server wait on his table."

 When my wife and I moved from California to Louisiana six years ago we really didn't realize just how many of the things we truly loved that we would be leaving behind. One of those things was really good Asian food. If you travel anywhere in So Cal you can find any number of restaurants featuring Japanese, Chinese, Taiwanese, Indian, Vietnamese, and Korean cuisine. If you are craving a Spicy Tuna Roll or a steaming bowl of Phở all you have to do is just jump in your car and drive (or possibly even walk) a short distance to get it. One of the more unique dining experiences could be found at a Hawaiian BBQ restaurant, which were a little harder to find, but well worth the hunt. Alas, it had been well over six years since I had last tasted any Hawaiian food, that was, until last Thursday.

 This past weekend Terri and I were doing a little shopping at the Alexandria Mall when our tummies started grumbling, so we decided to stop by the food court for lunch. I was surprised to see a Mexican Food restaurant called Habanero where there used to be a rather sub-par Chinese food place used to be. Being the adventurous type, and a well-known lover of Mexican Food, I decided to give the place a try. I'm oh so happy that I did.

 Last night Terri and I were passing through Baton Rouge and we decided to stop off at Schlitz & Giggles for dinner. This quirky little restaurant is one of our favorite places to get pizza here in Louisiana.  We honestly love everything about Schlitz & Giggles from having to park under the 10 freeway, the awesome ambiance, to the great food. Honestly the whole experience at Schlitz & Giggles is exactly what my wife and I really love. There are classic Schlitz Beer advertisements all over the walls, there is classic rock playing, and oddly enough the sounds of cars and trucks roaring over the freeway above add to the overall experience. 

 The quest for some great Mexican Food in the South continues! Being a transplant from the Southwest now living in Louisiana I embarked on an epic quest to find a great plate of south of the border food in a vast region populated with more crawfish and jambalaya restaurants than you can shake an alligator tail at.  

Agave Mexican Grill & Cantina in Lafayette Louisiana Here is the low-down. Agave is by far the best Mexican food that I have had in the five years that I have lived here in Louisiana.  If you happen to be in our state capitol and want a great sub sandwich you have to eat at Jersey Mike's! Last Saturday my little angel and I made a pilgrimage down to Baton Rouge to see the Old State Capitol and to eat at Jersey Mike's. Yes, eating at Jersey Mike's was actually on our itinerary due to the fact that we both hadn't eaten at one in over five years. Back in our days in California it was one of the restaurants that we ate at quite frequently. It may have been a long time but the food certainly didn't disappoint. I ordered the #13 The Original Italian with provolone, ham, prosciuttini, cappacuolo, salami, and pepperoni on white bread and my wife got the #5 Super Sub with provolone, ham, prosciuttini and cappacuolo also on white bread.
