Having Indian Food Cravings? - You Have To Try India's Restaurant in Shreveport, Louisiana | Ken's Restaurant Reviews

 Written By Ken Hulsey

Last night, while in Shreveport, I found myself craving something for dinner but couldn't decide what exactly I wanted. Seeking inspiration, I turned to the internet to see which local eateries had received favorable reviews. Mexican food was an option, but I have that often. Chinese food was a possibility, but my wife likes it, and I didn't want to go without her. Then I remembered Indian food - something I hadn't had in a long time.

After some research, the place that seemed to have the best online reviews was a local spot called India's Restaurant. Luckily, it was only about a 15-minute drive from my hotel, so I decided to give it a try, despite the distance being a bit far, especially after a long day of driving.

Thankfully, the trip was well worth it, as the food at India's Restaurant turned out to be excellent. The restaurant is nestled in Shreveport's historic district, housed in an older building that gave me pause for a moment. But I've learned that when it comes to great food, looks can be deceiving. This place had the goods.

The young man at the front, who was juggling host, waiter, and server duties, greeted me promptly and directed me to the dining room. I perused the menu and opted for one of their combo platters, figuring it would give me a nice sampling. While I had to wait a bit for my order due to the server's multitasking, another customer who arrived after me ordered the same thing, so I felt confident I had made a good choice.

When my "India's Dinner for One" arrived, I was pleasantly surprised. The portions were generous, with four pieces of delicious naan bread, tandoori chicken, shrimp, tikka masala, and dal makhani. In fact, the amount of food was easily enough for two people to share. I managed to put away a solid 80% of it, but I was left feeling like I was about to burst, à la Violet Beauregarde.

Despite the risk of overindulgence, the meal was absolutely worth it. This was hands down the best Indian food I've had in at least seven years, since my days in California. I was thoroughly impressed by the quality and flavor.

As if the excellent food wasn't enough, my multitasking server went above and beyond by providing me with a complimentary mango smoothie when I paid the bill. That's the kind of customer service that keeps me coming back.

I can't recommend India's Restaurant enough, whether you're an Indian food aficionado or simply curious to try it. I'll definitely be making a return visit the next time I'm in Shreveport for work.

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
