Food Well Worth The Wait - Royal India Bistro in Alexandria Louisiana

In 1971 the American singer / songwriter Carly Simon released the hit song Anticipation. If you're not familiar with that one the chorus went like this:

Anticipation, anticipation
Is makin' me late
Is keepin' me waitin'

I'm sure that you are probably wondering what a hit song from the early seventies has to do with a restaurant review? In the case of my experience dining at the Royal India Bistro here in Alexandria the words sung by the great Carly Simon have a two prong meaning.

One the one hand  the waiting and anticipation refers to the face that, until tonight, I hadn't enjoyed any Indian cuisine since I left  California five and and half years ago. One the other hand, my meal took an insane amount of time to reach my table after I ordered it.

At this point I have to be blunt and say that I would have honestly walked out on this one if I hadn't been craving Indian food so bad that I was willing to wait about 45 minutes to get it. Sadly I have become accustomed to having to wait a very frustrating amount of time for things like fast food since our family moved here to Central Louisiana. Unfortunately nobody in this part of the country is in any kind of a hurry.

Now that I have gotten that out of the way, when it came to the food it was a different story entirely. Tonight I ordered The Chef's Special Chicken Curry and a side of the Pesto Naan and it was nothing short of delicious. I tore through that plate of chicken curry and rice like a man who had been eating nothing but coconuts on some deserted island for the last half decade. I only put my fork down long enough to stuff my face with the naan. My diet soda only served as a lubricant to get one bite down so I get another shoveled in.

I'm not normally prone to such an eating orgy, but the food was just that good.

So, to break it down, my experience at Royal India Bistro grades out like this:

The Food - Grade A
The Service - Grade D

I'm going to eat here again, that's a given, so lets see if the service is better next time. I'm actually going to cut the place a break because of the quality of the food. It was truly worth the wait.

Looking For A Great Place To Eat? - Try Pedro's Tacos & Tequila in Alexandria, LA

The first time I had the Puffed Tacos and today I went with a simple combination plate of an enchilada, tamale, taco and refried beans. Both meals were simply delicious and I highly recommend them. The one thing that both my wife and I really love is their salsa. Any Mexican Food lover will tell you that a good cup salsa with chips can make or break any dinning experience. - READ MORE

Great Food: Rotolo's Craft & Crust - Alexandria, Louisiana

I had the Dynamite Shrimp Tacos and they were as advertised - simply dynamite. The shrimp was glazed with the restaurant's signature Dynamite Sauce which is flavorful with just enough pop yet not too spicy. The addition of cabbage om top reminded me of the famous Baja fish tacos I enjoyed on the West Coast. - READ MORE

Some West Coast Flavor: Rubio's Coastal Grill (AKA Rubio's Fish Tacos)

Their famous 'Fish Taco Plate' consists of two of those tacos with some tortilla chips and a cup 'no-fried' pinto beans. It doesn't sound like much, and it really isn't, but man oh man is it one delicious meal.- READ MORE

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
