Dynamite invites fans to check out her new flagship title launching this October, helmed by Hyborian legend Jim Zub. "I grew up on a steady supply of sword & sorcery novels, comics, and games in my youth and they indelibly imprinted on my mind in ways that inform all my work," said writer Jim Zub. "I’m absolutely pumped to bring that to Red Sonja. This time I have more room to explore what drives her and the depths she’ll go to overcome threats wildly stacked against her." The She-Devil With a Sword soars toward her huge 50th anniversary in 2023. To lead fans into the big celebration, Dynamite is proud to present a sweeping story of high adventure to join the canon. Red Sonja Enters The Arthurian Mythos In A New Series From Dan Abnett

Image
From Dynamite Entertainment Acclaimed comics and prose scribe Dan Abnett returns to the mythos of King Arthur Pendragon, Excalibur, the Knights of the Round, and more, and takes Red Sonja along with him in the new title Immortal Red Sonja launching this April. Red Sonja is of course no stranger to worlds of fantasy and fable, but in her latest upcoming series, she'll be coming face to face with some of the foundational players of the genre. She finds herself cursed by a mysterious chainmail shirt and seeks out the counsel of the legendary wizard Merlin. This take on her costume will be familiar to fans of the character, as homage back to her very first appearance as depicted by Barry Windsor-Smith. Artist Alessandro Miracolo is on board for the series to depict this iconic look and Sonja's exciting quest. As a fan first and now professional artist who grew up on the classic artists of Windsor-Smith, John Buscema, and more, he's excited to tackle this design for the charact...

New Flagship Red Sonja Series Launching This September

Image
From Dynamite Entertainment (Press Release) Few comic book creators have such diverse skills and worldwide passionate followings as writer/artist Mirka Andolfo, and she's bringing that energy to the She-Devil With a Sword for a new series debuting this fall! "Red Sonja is an extraordinary, multifaceted character, and I loved her from the first moment," said Mirka Andolfo. "When I was asked to try to make my own version of her, I immediately accepted." In Mirka Andolfo's Red Sonja #1, she kicks off a new arc "Mother," touching on themes that fans of Mirka's other works starring strong female characters will immediately recognize and latch onto. The story begins with a village burning to the ground, set aflame by the dreaded Three-Eyed Shezem. Sonja arrives to find only a single survivor, a young child with mysterious white tattoos. As they set off on an arduous journey through frigid snow plains and thick forests, the new companions will face a...

Red Sonja Travels To The 1980s In A Dynamite Comics Special Issue

Image
Red Sonja has always been one of my favorite comic book heroines. What's not to like about a beautiful woman who fights monsters in a metal bikini? Now Dynamite is taking Sonja back to the future with a one-shot issue entitled Red Sonja 1982. From Dynamite Entertainment: Red Sonja finds herself deep in the culture of the 1980s in a special one-shot this June by acclaimed scribe Amy Chu. 40 years ago, Red Sonja once found herself mysteriously transported to the then-present, tangling with one red and blue wall-crawler and her immortal enemy Kulan Gath. Writer Amy Chu's beloved ongoing run on Red Sonja kicked off in 2016 with a similar premise, taking the fiery-haired heroine to the constantly-under-construction bustling NYC of today. She also found herself out of time in Amy's fun-filled crossover with Riverdale's finest, Betty and Veronica. In this new special story, Sonja finds herself once again in more modern times in the City of Angels. Red Sonja goes to Hollywood!...

Classic Comic Book Covers: Marvel Feature #4 (Red Sonja)

Image
In a prior article I already confessed my love for classic movie posters . Today I'm starting a feature on some of my favorite comic book covers. I guess that I'm just a sucker for really good pop art. I like old record covers and advertising as well. Today I chose a great Marvel Comic from the 70s that features everybody's favorite "she-devil with a sword" Red Sonja . The basic appeal of the cover is obvious. You  have Red Sonja, a fiery red head in a metal bikini standing triumphant over the bodies of fallen foes. Sonja exclaims. "Whatever the battleground .. whatever the foe .. I shall never falter!" The evidence that she can back up what she claims is all around her.  I have copy of this issue for sale in my online store for $7.69 - Check it out HERE Many fans aren't aware that Red Sonja appeared in the pages of Marvel Feature prior to getting her own solo series in 1977. That issue also features an amazing cover.  Credit goes to artist  Frank T...
