Some Seriously Good Pizza - Schlitz & Giggles - Baton Rouge Louisiana

Last night Terri and I were passing through Baton Rouge and we decided to stop off at Schlitz & Giggles for dinner. This quirky little restaurant is one of our favorite places to get pizza here in Louisiana.

We honestly love everything about Schlitz & Giggles from having to park under the 10 freeway, the awesome ambiance, to the great food. Honestly the whole experience at Schlitz & Giggles is exactly what my wife and I really love. There are classic Schlitz Beer advertisements all over the walls, there is classic rock playing, and oddly enough the sounds of cars and trucks roaring over the freeway above add to the overall experience.

Of course, we didn't come to Schlitz & Giggles to simply listen to music read old beer adds, we came for some great food and as always this restaurant delivered just that. My wife is a huge fan of New York style thin crust pizza and her Big Pepperoni simply melts in your mouth. I, on the other hand, wasn't in the mood for pizza, so I had the K.C. Wrap (Roasted chicken, bbq sauce, cheddar, mozzarella, diced jalapenos, & red onions wrapped in a flour tortilla.) with a side salad. The wrap was simply amazing. The combination of chicken, cheese, and spicy bbq sauce was something right up my alley. I honestly can't recommend this sandwich enough. I will definitely be ordering this again.

The service staff was great and our waitress really went out of her way to make sure that we were having a great dining experience.

If you live in Baton Rouge, or simply passing through, you need to look for the Schlitz & Giggles sign visible just off the 10 freeway and make the journey through a really cool old neighborhood to one of the best pizza restaurants in The Pelican State.

Some Really Great Pizza & Beer - Flying Heart Brewing in Natchitoches Louisiana

That being said our experience at Flying Heart was something wonderful indeed. We started with the Pretzel Bites that were served with delicious Black Heart Infused Cheddar Sauce and HWY 80 Infused Ale Mustard. For the main course I chose the Carnitas Pizza by Jared which was topped with Salsa Verde, Ranch, Mozzarella, Pork Carnitas, White Onions, Cilantro and Chipotle Cheddar. I have to tell you that it was an amazing fusion that satisfied both my love of Mexican Food and my love of Pizza. I honestly can't recommend this one enough, it was absolutely delicious.

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
