If you are looking for some great pizza and hand crafted beer in central Louisiana you have to stop by the Flying Heart Brewing in Natchitoches.
To be honest I haven't had a great pizza since our family moved here from California almost six years ago. Locally people here in Alexandria rave about Wildwood Pizza but the one time that the little lady and I tried to eat there we were greeted with a foul septic smell the moment we walked in the front door and we have never been back. Eating at Philly's Pizza in Pineville has been a mixed bag of decent pie and greasy goop. It's sad when a Ultimate Supreme from Little Caesar's becomes your pizza of choice due to little to no other choices.
That being said our experience at Flying Heart was something wonderful indeed. We started with the Pretzel Bites that were served with delicious Black Heart Infused Cheddar Sauce and HWY 80 Infused Ale Mustard. For the main course I chose the Carnitas Pizza by Jared which was topped with Salsa Verde, Ranch, Mozzarella, Pork Carnitas, White Onions, Cilantro and Chipotle Cheddar. I have to tell you that it was an amazing fusion that satisfied both my love of Mexican Food and my love of Pizza. I honestly can't recommend this one enough, it was absolutely delicious.
To wash it all down I ordered the HWY 80 IPA. Normally I'm not a huge IPA drinker but my son-in-law ordered one so I decided to follow suite and it was one of the better IPA's that I have ever had. I would defiantly recommend one of these as well.
Here is a little info about Flying Heart Brewing from their website:
Flying Heart Brewing & Pub is owned and operated by two couples who share a love for creative beer, interesting people, and Northwest Louisiana. Leah was getting ready to leave for an overseas deployment and Ben Hart needed something to occupy all his spare time. Ben and Elizabeth Pattillo were just learning to brew when they decided to make it a group activity with their new friends, Ben and Leah Hart.Map:
After they brewed their first batch, they waited for four long weeks to try their new creation. And when the time came to tap into the brew, the group bonding activity quickly turned into an obsession. Flying Heart Brew Club was formed that same night. The moral of the story: if you want to make friends, do it with beer!
It didn't take long for the friends to drink their initial inventory, so they started brewing larger batches. They also began experimenting and creating a variety of recipes which reflected the varying flavor preferences of not only themselves, but their group of ever expanding volunteer taste testers .One night, the always ambitious Elizabeth said, "How cool would it be if we did this for a living?" And for once, her husband actually listened to her. In August 2014, Flying Heart Brewing was officially founded.
The group purchased historic Fire Station Number 6 on Barksdale Blvd. in Bossier City and began renovations to develop the location into the city's first brewery. From conversations around a fire pit to a fully operational brewery and tasting room, The Hart and Pattillo families opened the doors to Flying Heart Brewing in 2015 and have been welcoming beer lovers in ever since. Now with a staple line-up of 7 different styles and a variety of seasonal brews, Flying Heart Brewing is looking forward to what's next.
