UCLA 2022 College Football Season Previews

 From Athlon Sports:

UCLA's courting of transfer quarterbacks appeared to signal that Dorian Thompson-Robinson was off to the NFL, but he surprised many in announcing a return for a fifth year as the starter. The electric dual-threat has gotten progressively better each season and is coming off All-Pac-12 honors after throwing for 2,409 yards and 21 touchdowns in the conference's highest-scoring offense. If he can go from being a West Coast name to a national one like his talent suggests, the Bruins can survive breaking in a few new names on offense.

Helping out in the backfield is Zach Charbonnet (1,137 rushing yards, 13 TDs), a 220-pound bruiser between the tackles who is equally shifty in the open field. He'll handle the bulk of the workload as the No. 1 tailback and should factor more into the passing game (24 receptions) on third downs.

Following Jerry Azzinaro's resignation, it was not surprising to see Kelly turn to a familiar face in Bill McGovern to be UCLA's new defensive coordinator. The longtime NFL assistant does have limited college experience calling plays but will chiefly be tasked with fixing a porous pass defense that finished at the bottom of the Pac-12.

Incremental improvement in Kelly's early tenure finally gave way to tangible results last year, but those results bring even loftier expectations on the field for 2022. UCLA boasts one of the best quarterbacks in the conference, a top-flight tailback and a defense with a much higher floor following recent staff changes. The door is clearly open for the Bruins to do more than just contend in the Pac-12 South this season, but actually delivering on that potential will require an even more meaningful step forward as a program.

From Sports Illustrated

Thompson-Robinson was the unchallenged starter all the way back in 2019, and he's only gotten better since then. After coming in and struggling to adjust to the college game as a true freshman and sophomore, Thompson-Robinson has managed to become one of the most efficient and productive quarterbacks in the West ever since.

Across 16 games in the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Thompson-Robinson threw for 33 touchdowns and 10 interceptions on 63.2% completion and a 154.7 passer rating. The 6-foot-1 signal-caller has also improved as a runner, racking up 915 yards and 12 touchdowns in that same span while surpassing Marcus Mariota for the highest career rushing grade by a Pac-12 quarterback in the PFF era.

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
