Photo and Story by Ken Hulsey
Back in 2013, Terri and I embarked on our first trip to Las Vegas together. As we're not big gamblers, we decided to take our time and soak in all the sights Vegas had to offer. The city is truly a one-of-a-kind destination, with an array of attractions you'd be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.
Of course, Vegas also has its fair share of replicas - you can snap a photo with the Statue of Liberty and Eiffel Tower all in one frame, as they sit right across the Strip from each other. And let's not forget the street performers dressed as superheroes and showgirls, posing with tourists for money. Or the flyer-wielding club promoters - a Vegas staple we all know too well.
Despite the sensory overload, Terri and I made sure to seek out the city's hidden gems that most tourists overlook. One such gem was the Chinese New Year display at the Shops at Caesars Palace. Vibrant paper ornaments hung from the ceilings, and beautiful cherry blossom trees lined the halls. It was a truly lovely sight, and I'm glad I captured a photo of one of the mall's ornately decorated columns that day. I had never shared that image before, but looking at it now, I realize what a great shot it is.
