Overcoming Selfishness & Conflict: Pastor James Greer on Spiritual Growth | Journey Church

Self-centered desires are the main source of conflicts, arguments, and fractured relationships. These desires can be concealed and often spark disputes. Regular self-reflection is essential to recognize and address these selfish inclinations. It’s important to refrain from slander and gossip, as they have the power to either uplift or harm others. Additionally, recognizing and submitting to God’s authority over your plans is vital.

In this powerful and convicting message, Pastor James Greer shines a light on the insidious nature of selfishness and how it can quietly take root in our hearts, causing untold damage to our relationships, our spiritual growth, and our ability to experience the fullness of God's blessings. Drawing from the wisdom found in James 4, Pastor Greer masterfully unpacks how our unchecked selfish desires and ambitions can lead us down a path of conflict, broken relationships, and a life that is far from the abundant one that Christ promises. But even in the midst of this sobering reality, Pastor Greer offers a message of profound hope—that by embracing the humility modeled by our Savior, putting others first, and fully surrendering our lives to God, we can break the chains of selfishness that bind us. As we learn to die to ourselves daily, we open the door for God to work in and through us in remarkable ways, molding us into the image of Christ and empowering us to live a life marked by love, joy, peace, and purpose. If you find yourself struggling with selfishness or wondering why your relationships and spiritual life feel stuck, this sermon offers the wisdom and encouragement you need to experience true transformation from the inside out.

In this impactful sermon, Pastor James Greer dives into James 3, revealing the incredible power of words to shape our relationships, futures, and spiritual growth. Our tongues may be small, but they hold the ability to build up or tear down. Pastor James shares biblical wisdom on how to control our speech, honor authority, and use words to bring life instead of destruction.

The tongue wields tremendous power—to build up or tear down, to speak life or death, to praise God or pierce hearts. As Christians on the path to spiritual maturity, we must learn to tame this unruly member and align our speech with the truth of God's Word. According to Pastor James Greer, gaining control over what we say is a vital sign of growth and wisdom in our faith walk. When we surrender to godly leadership and allow the Holy Spirit to guard our mouths and guide our conversations, we begin to experience the life-changing effects of speaking encouragement, blessing, and scriptural promises rather than negativity, complaining, or destructive words. As Proverbs 18:21 declares, "Death and life are in the power of the tongue," so we must choose daily to use our speech to impart life and further the work of God's Kingdom. When we make this our habit and our heart's commitment, we will see supernatural transformation in our relationships, our spiritual vitality, our future, and our witness for Christ. Let us purpose to speak words of life that bring healing, inspire faith, and glorify our Heavenly Father.

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
