By Ken HulseyThis morning, I revisited cherished photographs from a trip Terri and I took to Big Bear Lake. On that day, we savored a picnic lunch beside the serene waters and spent time exploring the surrounding trails. As you know, I rarely venture forth without my trusty camera, and that day was no exception – I captured several dozen images. One particular shot has always resonated with me, featuring a tree-lined path that resembles a tunnel, with light shining at the end. The scene struck me as profoundly spiritual, prompting me to search for a Bible verse that captured its essence. This is the passage the Lord led me to:
Show me your ways, O Lord, teach me your paths; guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.
—Psalm 25:4-5
It is interesting that I pray for the Lord to guide me onto the right path in life – a path that will lead to a deeper, more meaningful relationship with Jesus and the purposeful life He has waiting for me. When I look back on my life, I can't help but wonder how much better things could have been if I had chosen to follow God's path instead of my own. I've certainly made a mess of many things, going right when I should have gone left, staying when I should have moved on. I suspect you may have similar regrets as you reflect on your own life's journey.
However, the time is now to shift our focus away from the well-trodden path behind us and instead look toward the prosperous path God has promised. For there is light ahead if we choose to follow the teachings of our Savior and align our steps with His. This week, I encourage you to get outside, enjoy the unseasonably warm December weather, and find a quiet place to be alone with God, seeking His wisdom for your life. These are just some thoughts to consider today.
