UFO Spotted In Lightning Storm Over Lecompte, Louisiana

Image
I didn't see the white light flying around in the sky when I shot this. My wife and I were focused on the lightning. After we posted it on social media we were like ... What The Heck Is That!!! The Story: Last night about 9pm I was getting ready to go to bed so I took our dog outside to use the bathroom. I didn't now it but there was a spectacular lightning display going on overhead so I called my wife out to see it. We stood there for a few minutes watching the show while our dog did his business. I thought that it would be cool to shoot a video of all the lightning so I went back in and grabbed my phone. I returned outside and took the one minute video you see above. Now, in retrospect, I wish that I had continued filming. After returning inside, and posting the video to Facebook, I noticed the white light in the sky. My wife noticed it at almost the same moment I did and I heard a very excited, "Ken did you film a UFO?!" coming from our kitchen. She noted, thoug...

Discover New Mexico: Los Cerrillos - Relive Life In The Old West

Image
A couple of weeks back I began to tell the story of trip that took up New Mexico State Road 14, better known to locals as the Turquoise Trail, through the rural mountains. My original plan that day was to travel up to the top of Sandia Crest (east of Albuquerque) and take some photos of the city from that lofty vantage point. As it ended up I zigged instead of zagged and I instead opted for an exploratory  trip up unfamiliar roads towards unknown destinations.  As I mentioned in my prior article, my first discovery was the old mining town of Madrid . That was a very pleasant surprise indeed, but it wasn't where my journey would come to and end however. I had spent quite a while in Madrid looking around and taking photographs, yet it was still early so I decided to continue onward north up the 14.  About three miles further I found myself in the town of Los Cerrillos. I stepped out of my car and traveled back in time ... or at least that's what it seemed like. I was...

Retro Saturday Morning: Ark II (1976-79)(CBS)

Image
Ark II is an American live-action science fiction television series, aimed at children, that aired on CBS from September 11 to December 18, 1976, (with reruns continuing through November 13, 1977 and reruns returning from September 16, 1978, through August 25, 1979) as part of its weekend line-up. Only 15 half-hour episodes were ever produced. The program's central characters were created by Martin Roth; Ted Post helped Roth develop its core format.      The opening titles for each episode, as narrated first by executive producer Lou Scheimer (using his then uncredited pseudonym Erik Gunden), then by the voice of Terry Lester, who portrayed Jonah, summarized the show's backstory:   For millions of years, Earth was fertile and rich. Then pollution and waste began to take their toll. Civilization fell into ruin. This is the world of the 25th century. Only a handful of scientists remain, men who have vowed to rebuild what has been destroyed. This is their...

The Midnight Special: Boz Scaggs - Lowdown

Image
I honestly didn't realize when Boz Scaggs recorded todays song entitled Lowdown. Since I used to hear it on the radio in the early eighties I assumed that it was a current track, possibly from the late 70s, but until I look up info on it for this article I didn't realize it was from 1976. Check out this rare and very early music video promo from Boz Scaggs:    History:   "Lowdown" is a song originally recorded in 1976 by Boz Scaggs for his album Silk Degrees. The song was co-written by Scaggs and keyboardist David Paich. Paich, along with fellow "Lowdown" session musicians bassist David Hungate and drummer Jeff Porcaro, would later go on to help form the band Toto. In a Songfacts interview with Boz Scaggs , he explained: "We took off for a weekend to this getaway outside of LA where there was a piano and stayed up all night banging around ideas. We hit on 'Lowdown,' and then we brought it back to the band and recorded it. We were just thrille...

A Cinematic Turkey: The Giant Spider Invasion (1975)

Image
The Giant Spider Invasion is a low-budget 1975 science fiction horror film produced by Transcentury Pictures, a partnership owned by the film's director Bill Rebane. The film is about giant spiders that terrorize the town of Merrill, Wisconsin and the surrounding area. The Giant Spider Invasion was given a U.S. release in theaters in 1975, and was distributed by Group 1 Films. The iconic theatrical poster art was a throwback to the monster movies of the 1950s. The film received a considerable theatrical run and became one of the fifty top-grossing films of that year. After a three-time ABC television network run, the movie achieved additional exposure many years later, when it was featured in a 1997 episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K) (season 8, episode 10). It is now regarded as a cult classic in the B movie realm. The film is listed on 'The 100 Most Enjoyably Bad Movies Ever Made' in the book The Official Razzie Movie Guide by Golden Raspberry Award founder...
