The Doctor's Sexiest Companion? Peri Brown (1984-86)

My first instalment of this Doctor Who series was so popular I decided to hurry up a compose a sequel. Overwhelmingly the fans wanted to see Peri Brown played by the curvy Nicola Bryant.

You asked for it and you got it!

Perpugilliam “Peri” Brown, met the Fifth Doctor while bored at her stepfather archaeological dig on Lanzarote. After helping defeat the Master, Peri opted to travel with the Doctor. During an early adventure, the Doctor and Peri contracted Spectrox Toxaemia on Androzani Minor. The Doctor’s selfless actions saved her from death and prompted the Time Lord’s fifth regeneration. The Sixth Doctor was initially unstable, and Peri had trouble coming to terms with him. She fought Cybermen on Telos, the combined machinations of the Rani and the Master, and joined the Doctor’s second incarnation in Spain to repel the Sontarans. During the Doctor’s trial, it was revealed that Peri died on Thoros Beta, when her mind was overwritten with that of the Mentor Lord Kiv. King Yrcanos – being used as an assassin by the Time Lords - destroyed the Peri-Kiv hybrid’s body. When the Doctor was acquitted, he was informed that the evidence concerning Peri’s death had been falsified – she lives, married to Yrcanos, a warrior queen of the Krontep.

Nicola Bryant was born the daughter of a heating engineer, in 1960, in Surrey, England. She began her training in dance and music at the age of three, studying classical ballet, then jazz and tap dance, the piano, flute and guitar, and finally acting at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. Here, apart from developing her acting skills, she continued her hobbies of golf and music. It was also during her time at drama school, that Nicola married the Broadway singer, Scott Kennedy, although they later separated. Her final production at Webber Douglas was "No, No, Nanette", in which she played the lead.

Bryant was spotted by an agent, Terry Carney (William Hartnell's son-in-law), and asked to audition for the part of Peri in Doctor Who (1963), which she got. On leaving Doctor Who, Nicola appeared in Blackadder's Christmas Carol (1988), Doctor Who: Dimensions in Time (1993), which was a Doctor Who spoof and the highly successful three "Stranger" videos and The Airzone Solution" with Colin Baker.

In 1992, she went to Los Angeles for several months before returning to the UK. In 1995, she appeared as Martine in The Biz (1995), a children's series, which has run for three series so far. She also has sung with Colin Baker, Anthony Ainley, Nicholas Courtney and a number of British pop stars on the "Doctor In Distress" record. Nicola lives in Notting Hill, where her understanding neighbours allow her to write music at all hours of the day and night. - IMDB

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
