Everyday We Should Proclaim - This is the day which the LORD has made; Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

Sunrise over Meeker, Louisiana by Ken Hulsey

This is a beautiful day that our Lord has made. Rejoice and be happy. Take time today to look at the positives in your life and remember to praise God for your blessings.

A fountain in Veterans Memorial Park - By Ken Hulsey

Today I was studying the material for an upcoming Bible study that I am going to lead. After reviewing the material I felt like there was something missing from the message so I set out along the shores Lake Charles in prayer and meditation hoping that the Lord would place something on my heart.

I stopped to admire a fountain in Veterans Memorial Park thinking that perhaps the sound of the running water would bring some peace to my restless soul. I leaned over and stared into the water. The crystal clear liquid rushing over the stones beneath reminded me of the mountain rivers that I once enjoyed when I lived in the Southwest. I couldn't help but be reminded of how the blood of Jesus has washed away my sins like the symbolic way river water is purified by the rocks and stones it travels over.

The path of life may be plagued with its overwhelming amount of rocks and stones but if we make the journey with Jesus we will be cleansed by the experiences we go through together. - Ken

A Foggy Louisiana Morning - By Ken Hulsey
Earlier this week Terri read this devotional from Pastor Steve Smothermon of Legacy Church in Albuquerque (who I follow) and it really spoke to her so I thought it would be great to share it with my readers:

Generosity

Years ago, in 2011, I wrote a book called Large, Large Living in a Small, Small World. In it I purposed to teach what a generous-lifestyle heart looks like. I defined generous from the Hebrew as being of noble birth and possessing noble character. Such a person is generous in overlooking injury or insult, rising above pettiness or meanness. It’s one who indicates a willingness to give, share, or to bestow favor.

Reciprocity:
Two areas in which I believe most believers have missed God completely are: one, serving; and two, giving. It’s so sad to me that people will talk about how much they love God and are thankful to Him, but never reciprocate by giving and serving His kingdom. I guess the saying might be true, “Put your money where your mouth is!” In other words, Show us what you believe.

Obedience:
John 14:15 — “If you love me, obey my commands.” Way too many people treat the Bible, the word of God, as a book of suggestions, instead of a book of commands. John 15:14 (NLT) — “You are my friends if you do what I command.” We need to do what God commands. He commands us to give of our money. He commands us to serve.

So, the question I leave you with is this: “Do you love God, and are you thankful enough to do what He commands?”

Just a thought,

Pastor Steve Smothermon

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
