I Traveled All The Way To Loch Ness And I Didn't See The Monster - What A Bummer!

A funny story from 2021 resurfaced this week on Facebook about a review that a British father named Ron left on Trip Advisor about his families trip to Loch Ness. Apparently good old Ron was rather miffed that Nessie didn't grace his family with a grand viewing (and possibly an autograph signing?) so he left this rather scathing, and unintentionally humorous  review:
“What a disappointment.

“We traveled 400 miles from Grimsby to see the Loch Ness Monster and it didn't show up.

“Don't go if you are wanting to see it because it you will end up bitterly disappointed like we were.

“Wife and two kids waited around for hours, viewpoints were crowded and dirty and the weather was terrible, one moment sunshine the next it was hard to keep up.

“I thought the whole experience was horrendous, I wish I hadn't bothered.

That in itself is pretty funny, but my quick online research revealed that Ron isn't the only person who has taken to the internet to complain that the famous monster didn't pop out of the water on cue.

Check out some of these Google reviews:

Gavin: Very disappointed, drove for over 7 hours to get here and was then told that no one has seen Nessie since 1975. Total waste of time .

L Marco: No monster in the Loch.

J Scott: I went to Loch Ness to try and find the Loch Ness Monster however I was unable to find Nessie. If I could rate 0* I would, but I can't so I have to give it a 1* review

Kiff: Sadly there is no monster here, searched extensively.

Jonkrat: No monster, do not recommend.

W Gould: where is the monster no point in going if your not going to see it.

G Sutherland: Just a big puddle really. No Nessie to be seen

S Plocher: In itself a very beautiful lake, but I came here especially because of Nessie and she was not to be seen far and wide.

N Morel: after 2 hours scrutinizing the lake we did not see the monster.. Liars.....

There are literally hundreds of these. Of course, some of those were left in jest, but yet others seam to have been created out of actual disappointment.

As you would guess, there are a lot of "Nessie ate my girlfriend, mom, kids, taco, etc." posts as well.

This one, however is my personal favorite and it comes from a German tourist named L Gajic"

It was pretty bad. It was cold and there was no pizza. There was no motel and they were pretty rude. The Motel One in Offenbach was very good 👍 and they had pizza with truffles. Incidentally, Motel One will soon be opening in Istanbul as well.

I think that one puts the Loch Ness Tourist Bureau on notice. Build a pizza restaurant on the banks of the Loch for crying out loud!

Everyone goes to Loch Ness for the food!

By the way, I wonder how the Mexican Food is there?

These reviews also point out the obvious truth that good old Nessie needs a better press agent. How on earth is she ever going to get another movie deal if she doesn't show up for selfies with her fans?

It looks like fame has gone to the head of another dinosaur. I went to Japan and Godzilla wouldn't even talk to me.

The Loch Ness Monster - It's History And The Most Compelling Evidence

On this date in 1933 the Inverness Courier ran a story about George Spicer and his wife who had been taking a leisurely drive around the Loch when the spotted something strange on the water. According to Spicer (it was) "the nearest approach to a dragon or pre-historic animal that I have ever seen in my life." The IC story was the first time that Nessie had been called a monster hence the title Loch Ness Monster was born.

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
