Louisiana Through My Lens - A Relaxing Afternoon at Dubuisson Lake

If you have traveled north on the I-49 freeway from Opelousas towards Alexandria you have undoubtedly noticed a rest stop off to the right. To be honest, I must have passed by it about a thousand times, as many of you probably have. Just for kicks I actually pulled off the highway there today to stretch my legs and to my surprise I discovered one of the most beautiful places that I have ever visited.

Adjacent to the rest stop is a recreation area on the banks of Dubuisson Lake. To my surprise I found the area to be quiet, secluded and stunningly beautiful. Apparently weary travelers often take advantage of the restrooms and vending machines nearby but are oblivious the natural beauty just yards away on the other side of the trees.

To be honest, I kinda understand how this happens because I actually discovered this place on a lark. I simply zigged right instead of left and presto, I was in a lush green oasis. When I say green, I mean GREEN. On a late spring day like today everything was in bloom and the flora was as lush as it could be. If there wasn't a storm system moving into the area, I could have easily shunned my responsibilities and spent my entire day here soaking in the peace and quiet.

Trust me, I will be back.
