I personally think that the area around Clear Lake near Mansfield is one of the more beautiful areas of central Louisiana and I was excited to have an opportunity to pass through and take some photographs. I had some business at the nearby International Paper plant and I decided that I would stop by the lake on my way back.
When I had traveled about half a mile past the lake I spotted a large cat about fifty yards ahead to my left. At first I thought it was a bobcat but as I approached it was full size cougar (aka Mountain Lion)(around here the locals call them panthers) that emerged from the tall grass. The big cat gracefully ran across the highway before it leaped (like a lion in a National Geographic special) into the brush on the right hand side of the road.
It was honestly one of the most amazing things that I ever saw. However, like most people who see Bigfoot or a Los Angeles Clippers fan (rarer than a unicorn), I was too much in awe to pick up my camera and get a photo.
Despite seeing a cougar in the area I was still thrilled to be able to take some photos around Clear Lake, even if I was extra careful while walking around in the scrub.
I was lucky to have arrived at the lake when I did because a storm system was slowly moving into the area. I just had enough time to take a handful of photos before the sky opened up.

I hope you can see just have beautiful Clear Lake through these images.
