Early this morning the Rams and Patriots hammered out a deal that would send former first round running back Sony Michel to the Rams. The Patriots will receive a fifth and sixth rounder in compensation, unless the Rams receive a fourth round selection for safety John Johnson III, then the Patriots will get that selection and the Rams can keep their fifth and sixth rounders.
Kinda complicated.
Michel isn't an NFL every down back and that will be fine for the Rams who can plug him into a tandem with third year rusher Darrell Henderson Jr. The Rams lost their potential starting rusher Cam Akers for the season during training camp. The addition of Michel should help lighten the load for Henderson, who has shown a lot of speed and the ability to break off runs for long yardage. Henderson has had some durability issues over the past couple of seasons so having Michel will pay instant dividends.
