Rams Play Their Best Game Of The Year Beat Jaguars 37 - 7

Earlier in the week I noted that the only way that the Los Angeles Rams could end their three game loosing streak and get back on track was to get back to playing basic tough-minded football. The first thing I mentioned was the need to establish a rushing attack on offense. Over the past three games the team had all but abandoned their ground game giving in to the temptation of airing it out every opportunity that they could. With the addition of a star receiver like Odell Beckham Jr. to the roster you can understand why an offensive minded coach like Sean McVay could loose their way. And loose their way they did.

Likewise I also noted that the defense had to start playing a more physical style. So far Raheem Morris' philosophy of bend but don't break has allowed opposing offenses to move the ball steadily down the field and chew up a lot of clock. Simply put allowing players to catch short passes, then wait for them to cross the first down marker, then pounce on them simply wasn't working.

Luckily, the Rams coaching staff finally figured all that out and entered Sunday afternoons game against the Jacksonville Jaguars with a different mind-set. The result was a balanced offense in which tailback Sony Michel rushed for a season high 121 yards and quarterback Matthew Stafford passed for 295 yards and 3 touchdowns. The defense played much more aggressively shutting down the Jaguars potent rushing attack while making life hard for rookie passer Trevor Lawrence all game long by creating constant pressure.

From The Rams Official Website:

Complementary football paved the way for a 37-7 Rams victory over the Jaguars (2-10) on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.

Los Angeles (8-4) rode a 65-yard return on the opening kickoff by Brandon Powell to its first points, also scoring 10 points off two turnovers created by its defense to gradually build its lead. Explosive pass plays also played a key role in setting up the Rams' additional scoring opportunities.

Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 26 of 38 pass attempts for 295 yards and three touchdowns, while wide receiver Cooper Kupp added eight receptions for 129 yards and one touchdown in the win. Kupp's production made him the fourth wide receiver in Rams history to record 100 receptions in a single season, joining Isaac Bruce (119, 1995) and Torry Holt (117, 2003; 102, 2005), and also gave him a new single-season career high in receiving touchdowns with 11.

Wide receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Van Jefferson each accounted for Stafford's other two passing scores, giving them both their second touchdown in as many games. Jefferson had six receptions for 41 yards in addition to his touchdown, Beckham two for 28.

In the feature back role, running back Sony Michel carried the ball 24 times for 121 yards and one touchdown.

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
