Sometimes photographers have to travel through some really rough terrain to get some great images. Such was the case a few weeks back when I decided to try and get some photos of the KCS Railroad bridge over the Atchafalaya River in Simmesport, Louisiana. I parked my car at the end of the nearest road and began my hike towards the bridge. From the highway it looked as if my destination would be just over the hill. Well sometimes distances can be misleading when viewed from some distance away and my journey ended up being a half mile walk through the weeds and tall grass. Luckily for me there were the remains of a paved roadway that I was able to navigate or else I may have never reached the bridge.
My expedition paid off because I eventually emerged from the jungle to find an oasis on the bank of the Atchafalaya and the KCS bridge. The area was quite beautiful and I got a set of really great photos.
The only problem was that I had to hike back to my car.
