Today while I was rummaging through and deleting old posts from my old blog Monster Island News I came across a string of posts about a string of UFO sightings in the United Kingdom from late November 2008 to early January 2009. As separate reports, as I initially wrote about them, they didn't seem like much at the time but after rereading them and connecting the dots a much bigger picture began to take shape. The whole set of events would end up culminating in an extraordinary event that could definitively prove that there are objects unknown to contemporary science.
And possibly one giant monster.
Let's start at the beginning:
November 29, 2008 Suffolk UK
Are UFOs the cause of the “amazing” light show over Bury St Edmunds, in Suffolk (UK), on Saturday, November 29th witnessed by Carol Marsh and several others?Reportedly Mrs. Marsh was standing out in front of the cathedral with several friends at about 10:30pm when someone noticed a strange set of lights in the sky. The group watched in amazement as the lights traveled low in the sky over the town and out of sight.
Mash explains, “The lights were low in the sky, very bright and seemed to be revolving. It was totally noiseless and for 45 seconds it lit up the sky, it was just incredible, an amazing thing going on the sky outside my house. The amber lights were almost like they were being fired up into the sky.”
Another area resident reported seeing a grey colored UFO over the church and phoned the report in to the local authorities.
A spokesperson from the police dept. confirmed the report, “We received a report at 10.43 pm on Saturday from a gentleman who said he'd seen a large object spinning in the sky for around 10 to 12 minutes, which looked like a UFO. This was the only report received.”
December 9, 2008 Hertford UK
The latest reported sighting comes from Hertford, where a blazing UFO flew across the sky at about 8:30pm last Sunday night.
An eyewitness posted this report online, "It travelled south and I tracked it for about two minutes. It was at quite a height, bright orange and had shots of what looked like orange flame that shot from the sides or top every now and then. As it got south of Hertford it went out of sight, either extinguished or to a height or at a distance where it could not be seen. There were no other lights with it such as you would normally expect on a plane. Sounds bonkers but I definitely saw it."

December 23, 2008 Cannock UK
Robert Teuu took a set of photographs of the Cannock Town Centre to try out his brand-new camera. When he got home and downloaded the pictures to his computer he discovered something odd hovering above the LA Rock Cafe in one of the shots.
At first he thought that his eyes were playing tricks on him. He was certain that the object had to be a plane or a bird. Then he zoomed in on the object, that's when it became clear that what was in the photo was something extraterrestrial.
“It’s not an aircraft. It must be some kind of UFO. I know that sounds crazy, but I cannot think of it being anything else really.” Teuu told the Sunday Mercury. “I zoomed into the object and was even more puzzled. I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing,”
It isn't surprising that someone could accidentally photograph a UFO over the Cannock area. The town has reportedly been the location of several credible sightings over the decades.
Recently declassified government documents describe numerous sightings over the town and surrounding area. Silent, rotating lights around the Pye Green Tower, cigar-shaped objects hovering over Burntwood, and a 10ft hovering light over the Stafford Road have all been investigated by the British Government according to documents.
It has also been revealed that between 1986 and 1992 the British Ministry of Defense was in constant contact with local authorities trying to come up with an explanation for the numerous UFO reports coming from Cannock.

December 23, 2008 Trafford UK
On December 23rd (2008) a Trafford Centre employee took a photo of seven objects above the shopping center.
Freke explains, "“First of all I thought it was a star but then I saw it moving. It was going at about 150 miles per hour and was flying at about 2,000 feet.I knew it wasn’t a plane or a helicopter and that’s when I got a bit excited and shouted for my wife and kids who were indoors. There were three pairs of these things flying around for about 15 seconds. I have no idea what they were, it’s very weird.”
While Freke's family watched the objects, he dashed inside to grab his camera. The resulting image was no more than an orange dot in the night sky.
Freke hopes that more can be learned about the objects from his photograph, “I’m sure there is a way of calculating how big the aircraft was by working out the scale on the photo."
December 24, 2008 Ashbrook Crescent UK
Andrew Freke, who is a 47 year old pilot, was out in his Ashbrook Crescent, Solihull, backyard on Christmas Eve, when he noticed some strange lights overhead. At first there was just one bright orange object, but shortly later five more similar objects joined the first and hovered above him.Freke explains, "“First of all I thought it was a star but then I saw it moving. It was going at about 150 miles per hour and was flying at about 2,000 feet.I knew it wasn’t a plane or a helicopter and that’s when I got a bit excited and shouted for my wife and kids who were indoors. Then something very strange happened:
January 4, 2009 Conisholme UK
On Sunday morning, Stephen and Dorothy Willows were woken up at 4am by a very load "bang" coming from the nearby Conisholme Wind Farm.
Earlier that night, Dorothy, and two friends were driving home when they noticed several "strange" lights flying in the direction of the Conisholme facility.
Mrs. Willows believes the two incidents may somehow be connected, "I don't believe in UFO's but it was a low flying object. This light seemed to be in the distance, and then it seemed to skim across the sky towards the turbines.
"It might not be connected, but it is just how your mind works when something like this happens – you think, could that have been the noise Stephen heard, or was that to do the light I saw? But until we know what has happened for definite it is very hard to say".
When the couple, and several area residents, went to see what had happened, they found that one of the massive turbines had been damaged. One of the massive blades was missing and another was bent out of shape. Oddly enough, the missing blade was no where to be found.
"When we got there, there was nothing to be seen - not even the propeller on the ground" added Dorothy.
"Those blades are pretty sturdy – we saw them when they were being constructed – whatever has hit them has made quite an impact. I was shocked to see that there was no debris left".
Was the turbine at Conisholme hit by a UFO? Evidence seems to point to it.
Meanwhile on the exact opposite side of the country:
January 4, 2009 Haslingden UK
Green, a reported UFO skeptic told the Lancashire Telegraph that at first there was only one object, but it was soon joined by several others. “As the first light, which seemed to follow the Rossendale Valley came closer at what seemed a considerable speed, it rose almost vertically over the other side of the valley above Scoutmoor Wind Farm, followed at regular two-to-three second intervals by a further eight identical objects."
“Once all nine lights had risen to a height when their brightness was faded, they gathered in a 'diamond nine' formation, then one by one - in the order they had passed me and risen - they faded and disappeared, or simply gained further height and went out of sight.”
Phil Catterall, of the Bolton UFO Society, reports that Green was not alone in seeing the craft, "I've had around four phone calls and emails saying they saw exactly the same thing and that was before the story about the wind farm.”
Note: This sighting took place four hours prior to the events at Conisholme.
Circling back to the incident at Conishime, a mere three days after the event several eyewitnesses came forward with a different account of what happened that night. If they are to be believed, the wind farm was attacked by something that belongs in a Godzilla movie.
Now, it would be easy to say that good old Mr. Harrison had probably a few too many drinks that night. Only one problem. He's not alone. Since the incident was first reported, literally dozens of eyewitnesses have come forward to back up his claim.
I named the monster "The Tentacled Beast of Conisholme" at the time.
Now here is an interesting story that surfaced later in January of 2009. Apparently RAF fighter pilots were given orders to shoot down any UFO they encountered of the UK.
Though, the exact rules for engagement in such cases is top-secret, it is known that RAF (Royal Air Force) pilots are instructed to down any suspect aircraft which fails to identify itself in UK airspace as a last resort.
Pope explains, "Over a series of many years there have been what are known as shoot-down orders given in relation to UFOs. In other words the military have scrambled jets, intercepted UFOs and tried to bring them down."
"Of course there are aircraft sitting on the runways fully armed and ready to go at a moment's notice, and on occasion over years, in Britain and in other countries too, these sorts of aircraft have been scrambled because uncorrelated targets have been picked up on the radar."
Now it seems strange that such an order was issued at a time when so many strange lights were being spotted over the UK and when something had struck a wind turbine.
You can draw your own conclusion about that.
As you would expect there were several 'official' explanations for these events. The strange lights in the skies were dismissed a Chinese Lanterns (...is a small hot air balloon made of paper, with an opening at the bottom where a small fire is suspended.) that were popular in the UK at the time.
As for the incident at Conisholme:
The firm said that the bolts securing the blade to the turbine's hub "exhibited classic signs of fatigue failure".
It added that though the bolts themselves had shown no flaws, it appears that a component part on either side had "induced stress in the bolts beyond their design limits".
The report also stated that the mysterious lights that were witnessed were the result of fireworks display that was put on by employees of The Guardian newspaper.
As you can see from the photograph in this article taken after the event it is very apparent that the windmill was obviously struck by something and eyewitnesses at the scene stated that the missing blade was nowhere to be found. If the blade had simply just broken off then logically it should have been somewhere in the area. That simply was not the case.
It has been over a decade since these events took place and memory of them seems to be all but forgotten, yet I feel that there was a significant set of events taking place in the skies over the UK in the Winter of 2008/2009 that deserve a more extensive investigation.
On the lighter side I haven't heard of any more sightings of a giant space octopus anywhere.
