Today's featured comic book cover comes from DC's Weird War Tales #68 circa October 1978. What's not to love about this one? You have a Godzilla-like (or is it Varan?) monster attacking a PT boat by Joe Kubert who is best known for his work on Tarzan and Sgt Rock. I think that this is an exceptional piece of work and an unsung piece of cover art.
Many books have been published about such work and I intend to start featuring the great issues that never seem to get the limelight that they deserve.
Now what's on the inside. In "Rotirra--the Monster-Weapon!" (script by Bob Rozakis, art by Gerry Talaoc) the Japanese have discovered a giant monster living in the ocean (does this sound familiar?) that they train to attack the American forces fighting against them. I don't want to spoil the story to much but there are some great Godzilla-esque battle sequences.
Oh let me not forget that this baby features the second published work of one Fran Miller ("The Greatest Story Never Told").
I happen to have a copy in stock: Weird War Tales #68 (1st Series 1971) October 1978 DC Comics Grade VF ***2nd Frank Miller***
