For anyone who has a Spotify account knows that Friday is new music day on the platform. I like to listen to the Release Radar playlist that the service compiles for me based on my listening habits. It's a great way to discover new music as well as new tracks from artists you frequently listen to. Well, to be honest, a lot of it is junk (I still don't know they put Hip Hop in there? I don't ever listen to it.) but I do discover some good stuff from time to time.
This week the very last track on the playlist was a brand new single from Stevie Nicks called 'Show Them The Way.' The track is a very emotional statement about civil rights issues here in America.
And I said Please God, show 'em the way Please God, on this day
Light the fire, start it over
Tell the world about the dream
Start it up and make it real
It's a very powerful message and it got me thinking about not only civil rights but also the state of politics in this country as well. It wasn't that long ago that it really didn't matter that much if people were liberal or conservative. They were either just to the left, or right of center when it came to issues. I used to have a very good friend who was liberal. We spent many a night discussing politics. We never got angry at each other, we never fought. Sometimes he would help me to see things in a different light and sometimes I would do the same.
That was then. Now things are different. The state of politics has gotten so out of hand the people on both sides of the fence view each other as enemies ... actual enemies, not friends with a different viewpoint, not fellow patriots who really want to do what they think is best for this nation.
I would hope that somehow we could get back to that. What has gotten lost is the fact that this nation needs both sides to the political spectrum to survive. The left is never one hundred percent right on issues as the right is never one hundred percent right either. Both sides need to keep a balance so that beneficial policies can be agreed upon to benefit everyone and move the country forward,
We are all on the same team so stop all the hatred.
