Back when in lived in Southern California I was a dedicated listener of the John and Ken show on KFI 640 AM (Los Angeles) every afternoon There simply isn't a better source of information about both local and national politics anywhere on the airwaves. The shows hosts, John Kobylt and Ken Chiampou, stand out in a vast sea of partisan political opinion programs by simply looking at each issue through the lens of logic and common sense. Neither party or state representative, Republican or Democrat, is safe from scrutiny and ire of these two commentators.
To put it simply, do or say something stupid in California politics and you are going to be called out on air.
You may also find yourself symbolically thrown in a dumpster at the end of the week.
Since moving out of California I had stopped listening to the show and for that matter stopped caring to much about the state's political climate.
Recently, however, I have begun to take a new interest in local issues pertaining to not only to California but also New Mexico (where I lived for 13 years), Texas (4 year resident) and Louisiana (where I live now). I have discovered that if you want to initiate any real political change you have to start at the state and local level. Being well informed about these issues will help residents make well informed decisions when it comes to voting for candidates that share their values.
I was able to find a podcast version of the show on Spotify:
