Today In History: A Meteorite Strikes A Sleeping Alabama Woman

I know that the headline for this article sounds like it came straight from the National Enquirer but it really happened. From History.com The first modern instance of a meteorite striking a human being occurs at Sylacauga, Alabama , on November 30, 1954 when a meteorite crashes through the roof of a house and into a living room, bounces off a radio, and strikes a woman on the hip. The victim, Mrs. Elizabeth Hodges, was sleeping on a couch at the time of impact. The space rock was a sulfide meteorite weighing 8.5 pounds and measuring seven inches in length. Mrs. Hodges was not permanently injured but suffered a nasty bruise along her hip and leg. Ancient Chinese records tell of people being injured or killed by falling meteorites, but the Sylacauga meteorite was the first modern record of this type of human injury. In 1911, a dog in Egypt was killed by the Nakhla meteorite. Check Out: Bigfoot In So Cal: The Return Of The Speedway Monster! Today In History: RAAF Announces That It H...

One Nation Under God - One Church Under God

From Pastor Steve Smothermon Think about The Pledge of Allegiance, especially where it says, One nation under God. A beacon of light: Scripture teaches in Amos 3:3 How can two walk together unless they be agreed? God brought people from every nation of the world to make and create America — a place that would be a beacon of light to the world that God is real and that He sent Jesus to save us; a light that other nations would envy; a light that when a nation honors God, He will cause it, them to prosper; a nation like no other nation; one nation under God; “one nation.”   My people: Regardless of where people are from, when they come here, they become American. America was birthed. God took people from every nation to create one nation where people honor and serve God. Isn’t it sad, especially in the last 12 years, that people don’t want to be one nation under God! They want to be individuals who claim they are working for a group of people (my people) instead of what God int...

Images of a Beautiful America - From the Poconos of Pennsylvania to the Sunny Shores of California

All Photos By Ken Hulsey I took this photo atop a cliff overlooking this bay just south of Santa Barbara, California. I was lucky to have stumbled upon this location as I was driving back home. The view was so beautiful that I pulled over to enjoy the sunset on the water. Of all the photos I took that evening I like this one the best. I love the colors produced in the waning twilight just after the sun had set.  I took this photo of this lone sailboat just off Newport Beach, California. The image always makes me think of peace and calmness in an otherwise hectic world. I love the dots of light just below the horizon created by the sunlight coming through the hazy cloud cover. I am a sucker for both sunsets and clouds and in this image both come together to create a spectacular combination of color and light. There really isn't anything more beautiful than a sunset in the American southwest. I literally took this one from my front yard in Victorville, California.  I don't know ...

Louisiana Water Crisis Update: It's Worse Than You Think!

"Water, Water, Everywhere, Nor Any a Drop to Drink!" - Samuel Taylor Coleridge When Coleridge penned the quote above he was referring to a stranded sea captain who was surrounded by literal ocean of undrinkable water. Unfortunately the residents of Louisiana are facing a eerily similar dilemma. There is water everywhere but none of it is safe for consumption.   If I can give you one bit of advice it would be to never drink the water that comes out of the tap here in Louisiana.  DON'T DO IT! Last April I wrote an article about the terrible condition of the local wastewater and drinking water systems here in the Pelican State. It was my conjecture that the state was on the verge of a water crisis. A recent article in the Louisiana Illuminator, however, points out that things are even worse than I had speculated. The hard truth of the matter is that the drinking water infrastructure around the state is in such a bad state that 20 years and $7 billion couldn't fix all ...

The Hot Traxx Top 20 Hits (11/24/21)

Here are the top ten hottest songs from my Spotify playlists! 1. One Hit Wonder - Isabella Manfredi (Prev 1 ) 2. Yeah Yeah Yeah - Fickle Friends (New) "Yeah Yeah Yeah" is the sixth track to be lifted from the band's upcoming second album, following earlier outings "Alone", "Love You to Death", "Pretty Great", "IRL" and "Won't Hurt Myself".   Vocalist Natti Shiner says of the new release, “We spent the last year feeling a little lost. It was like being in limbo, constantly waiting for something to change. This song is a bit of an ARGHHH moment in what was a truly confusing time for us as a band. I remember thinking how endless it felt. Making this record gave us purpose but we had no idea if anyone would still care at the end of it all."   She adds, "With that in mind we kinda thought, what the f%&$, let’s just go crazy and explore the heavier side of our music. I think it’s like the musical equivalen...

Gratitude, Generosity and A Wonderful Life

A Dandelion in the Sun - Newport Beach, California - By Ken Hulsey In this week leading up to Thanksgiving the Lord has placed several items on my heart. In this season for giving and sharing it is indeed important to give thanks to God for the blessings He has imparted on each and every one of us. But, I believe that we should take the time to reflect on these blessings and search our souls to make sure that we are truly grateful to God for what He, through His grace, provides. The Lord has made it a priority for me to learn just what being grateful truly means. We have to learn and understand that everything we either own or simply enjoy comes from grace. If we don't express genuine gratitude to the source of all these things (Jesus) they may be removed from our lives just as easily as they have been added. As in my case the removal of such items lead to the realization that I was never truly grateful for them. I now have a different perspective on life and my relationship with J...
