Preparing For Season 3 of The Mandalorian

With the eve of the series three debut of The Mandalorian upon us I thought it was time for me to flash my seldom used (these days) press badge and check in with the Disney + / Lucasfilm people to see what was available. Since I'm not running a sci-fi site like I used to the content they were willing to share with me was a little limited, even though they admitted that they really aren't even sharing much with the big boys before the series premiere, only having a new poster, several high definition photos and the trailer that made its debut online a month or so ago. At this point I takes what me gets so here are a bunch of those hi res photos from The Mandalorian Season 3 and a rather short series synopsis. The journeys of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue. Once a lone bounty hunter, Din Djarin has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic struggles to lead the galaxy away from its dark history. The Mandalorian will cross paths with old allies and ma...

Visit Taos New Mexico (Press Release) HISTORY Nestled at the foot of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the southernmost range of the Rockies, is the town of Taos. A Saturday Night Creature Feature - War of the Gargantuas (1966)

This is sibling rivalry on an epic scale! I have admit that when I saw that the 1966 Japanese monster movie War of the Gargantuas was going to be the feature film on Svengoolie this week I actually got a bit giddy. I have always had a soft spot for this titanic monster family slug fest ever since I first saw it back in the 80s on the weekday afternoon movie program Dialing for Dollars in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  A quick note on Dialing for Dollars, in case you couldn't guess the premise, the host of the film would pick a name out of the phone book and call it. If the person who answers can name the movie that person won a hundred bucks, a years supply of taco shells or something like that. Okay back to the movie. Japan finds itself in real trouble when a pair of fraternal twin mutant giant monsters decide to solve their backyard squabble with some hard core wrestling moves from the remote countryside to downtown Tokyo. The military runs up a huge electric bill trying to fr...

Exploring A Huge Amount Of Louisiana History

A couple of days ago I received a USB drive from my compadre Everett Lueck of the Southern Forest Heritage Museum that contains an enormous amount of information about life in Central Louisiana in the early to mid 20th century. The files that he sent me include documents, newspaper articles, letters, a couple of videos and huge amount of vintage photographs. The bulk of the material focuses on the lumber industry and the railroads that operated in this part of the state, I have just started to go through it all so that I can begin to put together some articles. While I'm doing that I thought it would be fun to pick out a handful of photos and post them this morning as a sneak preview of what's to come.  The crew of Red River & Gulf #105. Locomotives in the Red River & Gulf engine house. A crew working on the street in downtown Lecompte. (date unknown) The office staff of the Longleaf lumber mill. A farmer plowing a field. Abandoned Louisiana - A Long Forgotten Gas Station in Westlake

I think that when I retire I will take up the hobby of finding, photographing and documenting old abandoned gas stations in Louisiana full time. There are just so many of them that I could fill up my days just finding them all. Last week I was exiting the Kansas City Southern Westlake Railyard when I spotted these gas pumps across the street. From what I could see these old pumps look like they have been abandoned since the 1970s. There were no signs of any kind of structure in the area so I can only assume that it was demolished and the remains carted off years ago. All that was left of this gas station was an island with three gas pumps. Once again I have no history to share about this location. I just wonder why whoever tore down the gas station left the pumps behind? If you love old gas stations as much as I do go to the bottom of this post and click on the links to discover more.
