Exploring Arkansas - The South Arkansas Arboretum in El Dorado (Revisited)

Last December my travels took me to the southern Arkansas town of El Dorado. During my short time there I spent a wonderful rainy walk through the South Arkansas Arboretum that was nothing short of magical. I was impressed by the acres of flora and the beauty of the changing colors that surrounded me. Arkansas Bucket List Adventure Guide: Explore 100 Offbeat Destinations You Must Visit! Paperback - $14.99 @ Amazon.com On Friday I was blessed to be able to return to the arboretum and experience how the forested area would look in summer. Again my rather warm but pleasant stroll around the grounds was filled with color, textures and the amazing contrasts of dark and light filtered through the rather thick canopy of trees. As you know I never set out on one of these adventures without my trusty camera around my neck and on this day I paid special attention to those colors and contrasts as my eye searched for areas and items to photograph. I really wanted to capture images that told a stor...

Abandoned Louisiana - Shreveport Railways Company Trolley Bus in Ford Park Shreveport

Last week I posted a very popular article about Dardanelle and Russellville Railroad 2-6-0 Stem Locomotive #10 at Ford Park in Shreveport. Thanks to Brad Driggers of the Abandoned Louisiana group on Facebook I learned that old Number 10 isn't the only transportation related relic residing there. Thanks to the directions provided by Brad I was able to go on an expedition into the remote northwest section of the park where deep in the tree line sits the remains of an old Shreveport Railway Trolley Bus. At this time the old trolley is barely visible with only the tail end sticking out of the vines. Though I wanted to explore it more thoroughly, I could only manage to climb through the flora enough to access the rear window and stick my camera inside for a few photos. I also want to give a shout out to Rick Lewis of Abandoned Louisiana for warning me that the area is home to several venomous snakes. Thanks to Rick's warning I made sure to make a lot of noise as I explored the area ...

Louisiana Through My Lens - An Amazing Sunset Over Lecompte

One of the things that I really used to love about living in the small farming town of Lecompte was the ability to take quiet walks around town every Sunday evening. I rarely ever encountered a soul on these walks and it provided me the opportunity to meditate and have a conversation with the Lord while enjoying the beauty of his creation. Louisiana Bucket List Adventure Guide: Explore 100 Offbeat Destinations You Must Visit! Paperback - $14.99 @ Amazon.com On many such walks I would bring my camera along to capture images of the interesting landscape in around Lecompte. On this October evening I had managed to reach the outskirts of town just as the sun was setting. The clouds from a storm system that moved through area earlier in the day were still lingering around and they provided some beautiful hues in the sky above this yet unharvested cane field.  I thought that everyone would enjoy a little glimpse of the beauty that we enjoy here in central Louisiana. Map; Here are some of...
