Bolton's Crown Quality Wheat Express GP9 locomotive #1005 stands at the ready to switch cars for the grain elevator in the distance. The hardy locomotive had just survived one of the severe thunder storms that are the norm for this part of northern Texas. The BCQ serves the towns of Vernon, where this photo was taken, and Harrold, Texas. #1005 can normally be seen pulling cars from nearby Electra and providing switching power to move rolling stock to and from the adjacent BNSF main line (former Frisco and Burlington Route trackage). Before joining the BCQ the GP9 belonged to the MKT.
Correction:
"That unit had Kiamichi RR and Conrail heritage, but it was never with the Katy. In fact before they painted, renumbered, and re-lettered it, it was in the old Kiamichi gray with little white chevrons. When you got closer to it, you could see the Corail Quality decals under the paint." - Tower 55 (Railroad Forums)
