Have you ever felt like the universe was trying to tell you something?
Over the past three days there has been one common theme running through my life - the Mexican/American fast food chain Del Taco. It all started three days ago when my wife mentioned how much she missed the chain's famous Taco Tuesdays where you can get three tacos for $1.49 (It used to be three tacos for .99 cents). Then yesterday I heard an add for the restaurant while listening to a radio station from Albuquerque, New Mexico (KDRF 103.3 eD FM). Apparently Del Taco has twenty items under $2 these days. If that wasn't enough today a coworker told me that her sister in Barstow worked for - wait for it - Del Taco.
It should be noted that I presently live in Louisiana and there isn't a Del Taco within several hundred miles from me. That being said I have fond memories of eating at Del Taco while I lived in California and I'm going to say it right out of the gate that I think the chain is superior in every way to it's larger nationwide rival Taco Bell.
Unlike Taco Bell, Dell Taco serves great tacos, burritos, nachos that are to die for, along with delicious burgers and fries at dirt cheap prices.
Here is the history of Del Taco from their website:
Ed Hackbarth and David Jameson opened the first Del Taco in Yermo, CA in 1964. With a menu of 19¢ tacos, tostadas, fries and 24¢ cheeseburgers, Del Taco brought in $169 in sales on its first day in business - the equivalent of 900 tacos. Things were off to a bold start.
