Star Trek TNG Alum Jonathan Frakes Set To Direct A Sci Fi Series Based On Arthur C. Clarke’s 'Venus Prime'

News broke today that Star Trek TNG actor Jonathan Frakes is set to direct a new Sci Fi noir series based on a series of books written by Arthur C, Clark called Venus Prime. I have thought that many of the new science fiction shows have been rather dull lately, but this one sounds very interesting.

From Bloody Disgusting:

A new six-episode series adaptation of author Paul Preuss’ novels, “Arthur C. Clarke’s Venus Prime,” is set to enter production later this year, and Variety reports that “Star Trek” stalwart Jonathan Frakes will direct.

Jonathan Frakes joins the producing team that includes showrunners and executive producers David Cormican (“Tokyo Trial”) and Dwayne Hill (“Northern Rescue”).

“When the materials for ‘Arthur C. Clarke’s Venus Prime’ were presented to me, I couldn’t help but devour them,” Frakes told Variety. “When asked if I wanted to direct what I read —my answer was a resounding and immediate ‘Hell, yes!’ Working on such a tremendous piece of IP from the mind of another sci-fi legend (who is also a contemporary of the true #1 Gene Roddenberry), will be both an honor and a dream for me.”

Arthur C. Clarke collaborator Paul Preuss is also on board as a consultant.

Apparently the series has been development for some time and the series already has a website. Here is the synopsis for Venus Prime:

Sparta is an innocent woman who doesn’t realize her unique next-level abilities derive as both a combination between technological advances and as descendant from a race of demigods. What she does know, is that her parents brought her at a tender age to a special school to cultivate her myriad talents.

When Sparta discovered the school was being run by an evil conglomerate hellbent on using their students to help take over the world, she rebelled against her captors, but they imprisoned her and started erasing her mind to make her docile once again, but Sparta is eventually forced to escape.

On the lam, her journey becomes a mission to evade capture, regain her memories, uncover the mysteries of her past, and forge her own destiny in the world which ultimately culminates in her hitting the reset button on the Earth (as we know it), to begin humankind’s journey anew, unadulterated and pure.

Adapted from the VENUS PRIME book series by sci-fi legend Arthur C. Clarke and Paul Preuss, this six-episode-a-season, returnable series is a science-fiction, character-driven thriller, full of suspense, action and mystery. - Source

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
