The Summer of Sarah

It's been way too long since we last checked in with actress Sarah French. Back in the day I used to feature Sarah quite a bit on my Monster Island News blog. I have been following her career ever since and I have been wanting to do a feature on her for some time.

Sarah has always been a very active actress and model. At present she has several films slated to released this year including Brute 76, Violence on Demand, Garden of Eden, and Isla Monstro.

Despite being such a busy actress Sarah also maintains a very robust modeling career as well. I wanted to share several shots of Sarah taken over the summer.

Several years ago Sarah did a really great interview with Voyage LA magazine where she talked about her life and career:

"I guess you could say it all started when I was a teenager. My friends and I would make short films and super cheesy music videos together. Most of it was horror related because that was my favorite genre. I’d write the “script” and we’d take turns filming each other. Every time I’d see my friends, I’d want to film something. I think after a while they’d get sick of it but I was always the go-getter when it came down to it. I’ve always loved being in front of the camera. When I graduated high school, I went to college for criminal justice. I was always interested in the criminal mind and what makes them tick. Looking back, I think it was more interesting to me than actually wanting to work in the field. I was destined for something else. While in college, I took a few theater classes. That’s where my confidence started to grow. While taking those classes in college I was at a metal concert, my favorite genre of music, and a photographer came up to me. He loved my “gothic” look and wanted to shoot with me and he gave me his card.

At the time, I thought he was crazy and brushed it off. A few months go by and I find the business card. I checked out his work online and decided “what the hell”. I contacted him, we set up a photoshoot and spent the day shooting together. I’ve always been quiet, shy, and more of an introvert than anything. Doing this photoshoot was a huge step for me. It really helped me break out of my shell. After the shoot, I wanted more. It was like a whole new world for me. I wanted to be in front of the camera more and more. From there on, I worked with multiple photographers, started modeling various band merchandise, clothing, and more. I loved it! About six months go by and one day I was scrolling online on various horror movie blogs. There was a casting call for a short horror film being shot in St. Paul, MN and I fit what they were looking for so I decided to try it out and went for an audition. They loved my look, attitude, excitement, and basically hired me on the spot. That’s where it all started… “You’re Next 3: Pajama Party Massacre”, in 2006. From then on, I worked on various features, shorts, music videos, and local commercials. I was able to grow my acting resume in Minnesota, but also other states as well. I made lots of connections throughout the years and was very grateful for all of the opportunities. In 2015 my boyfriend Joe Knetter and I decided to take the leap and relocate to Los Angeles, CA."

Abandoned Louisiana - The Pirate's Cove Water Park / Resort in Iowa

About ten minutes east of the city of Lake Charles are the remains of an abandoned water park . The decaying structures are clearly visible from the busy I-10 freeway and for years drivers have wondered about it's history and why it was left for dead.   The Pirate's Cove Water Park actually has a rather interesting story behind it. A story that has been repeated over and over again, unfortunately, here in Louisiana. It's just another example of how government bureaucracy in this state killed an enterprise before it could ever get off the ground. Construction on the park began in 2008 and it was scheduled to open sometime in 2010. The sprawling complex was envisioned as an oasis from the hot summer heat that would feature luxurious amenities like a 900 foot long lazy river, a giant splash pad for the kids and eventually a five star hotel. The Pirate's Cove would have been an obvious tourist destination that could have brought much needed tax dollars and employment oppo...

Abandoned Louisiana - The Old Hightower Family Home in Dodson

I have to admit that I have been hanging on to these photos for a couple of months now just looking for the right minute to post them. Back in November I was traveling up to El Dorado, Arkansas and I passed through the small town of Dodson. While driving through town my eyes spotted a very attractive old house up on a hill and I just had to stop and take a few photos of it. I honestly don't know the history of this house, but I'm sure some local will send me message telling me all about it (and someone did see the UPDATE ), and it's not as cool as an abandoned railroad locomotive or old movie house but it really spoke to me. I have to wonder about the people who used to live in it and how it ended up in the state it is now. Anyone can see that it was a beautiful house long ago. What happened? How did such a grand residence end up like this? Those are questions that I can't answer unfortunately.  Unfortunately a site like this isn't all that uncommon here in Louisian...
