Aglow with Joyful Spirit - The Beloved Tree Lighting Ceremony
Natchez has celebrated the annual lighting of its Christmas tree for many years. The tradition began with a real tree anchored in the center of downtown Natchez at the intersection of Main and Commerce Streets. Over time, the tree has transitioned into a "forever tree", and in 2018, Taco Bell donated the current 34-foot tree used for the event.
Each year, the holiday season kicks off with the Lighting of the Tree ceremony, held on the Saturday immediately following Thanksgiving. The festivities draw hundreds of people, as the streets are blocked off and the heart of downtown transforms into a lively street party culminating in the tree lighting. Festivities include the arrival of Santa and Mrs. Claus, who welcome children for photos inside the Home Bank, a North Pole-themed playground with rides and activities, and food vendors lining the streets.
The tree lighting itself is a magical event, with a countdown accompanied by pyrotechnics synchronized to Christmas carols. This year's Lighting of the Tree will take place on Saturday, November 30th at 6:30pm. Bring the whole family to enjoy the kid's rides and local vendor shopping before the big moment.
