Written By Ken Hulsey - Photos From My Personel Collection
Over the past couple of months, I've shared a few photos from my vast collection of movie and television memorabilia. Starting in October, I've managed to post a total of three photos so far. At this rate, it would take me about 800 years to share the entire collection - far too long for my liking.
To speed things up, I've decided to post all the photos I have for the upcoming Svengoolie feature, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein. Hopefully, this will cut the timeline down to a more manageable 200 years. While one of the stars, Dracula, may be cursed to wander the Earth for eternity, I thankfully have not suffered the same affliction - at least not yet.
The 1948 American horror comedy film "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein" was directed by Charles Barton and starred the iconic comedy duo. It was the first in a series of films featuring the comedians paired with classic Universal horror characters, including Count Dracula (Bela Lugosi), Frankenstein's monster (Glenn Strange), and the Wolf Man (Lon Chaney Jr.). Subsequent films saw them interact with the Invisible Man, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and the Mummy. In 1954, the duo even encountered the Creature from the Black Lagoon on live television. Considered the swan song for Universal's "Big Three" horror monsters, who had not appeared in a film since 1945's "House of Dracula," the movie was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the Library of Congress in 2001 and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. In 2007, Reader's Digest named it one of the top 100 funniest films of all time, and it ranks 56th on the American Film Institute's list of the "100 Funniest American Movies.
