PASADENA, Calif. (KTLA) – The Eaton Fire, which has scorched more than 10,000 acres and killed five, remains at 0% containment as of Thursday morning, according to Cal Fire.
The devastating blaze has destroyed 972 structures as of the latest update at 4:30 a.m. Thursday. It’s unclear how many of those structures are homes and businesses.

At about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near Altadena Drive and Midwick Drive in Altadena, the Eaton Fire broke out, and has since torched massive portions of the areas directly east of Los Angeles.
As of Thursday morning, more than 700 firefighters were battling the Eaton Fire. As many as 79 engines and nine crews were assigned to the blaze.
The following school districts were closed on Thursday, with some already being closed until Friday if noted:
Alhambra Unified School District
Arcadia Unified School District
Duarte Unified School District
Garvey School District
Glendale Unified School District (closed through Jan. 10)
La Canada Unified (closed through Jan. 10)
Monrovia Unified School District
Pasadena Unified School District (closed through Jan. 10)
San Gabriel Unified School District
Santa Monica Malibu Unified School District
South Pasadena Unified School District
L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna described the situation surrounding the Eaton Fire, the second-largest active wildfire in the Los Angeles area, during a Wednesday morning press conference as “very fluid.” An additional news conference was scheduled for 8 a.m. Thursday.
As of 4 a.m. Thursday, the following areas were under mandatory evacuation orders:

Roosevelt

Canyon Close
Grand Oak
North of New York Drive

East of Allen
West of Santa Anita Drive
In Arcadia – North of Orange Grove/Rosemead Boulevard; East of Lake Avenue; West of Michillinda Avenue
The number of people evacuated was not immediately clear.
