On Monday afternoon a woman and her dog feel into the flooded Los Angeles River near Sherman Oaks. The woman was rescued by the LA Fire Dept. almost immediately but her beloved pet was swept downstream by the strong currents. Along the helpless dogs harrowing journey a brave man jumped into the water to try and rescue him only to become trapped in the water himself. The pair was almost rescued by the crew of a fire department helicopter but the frightened dog broke loose and was again carried downstream by the rushing water.
The man was soon rescued by a fireman on a cable.
The dog eventually found an area of the river near the CBS television studio where it could stand and walk around without being carried away by the water. He tried several times desperately to head back up river to find his owner to no avail. Eventually a rescue team was able to reach the animal and the nearly one hour ordeal came to an end.
