I first posted this image on my first blog, Monster Island News, way back in April of 2008. Louisiana Through My Lens - A Field of Tickseed (Coreopsis) in Caddo Parish

A couple of weeks ago I was driving south from Shreveport towards Natchitoches when I spotted a beautiful field of yellow and red flowers just off the highway. The sight was so spectacular that I had to pull off the road and capture the scene with my camera. These my be some rather simple looking images, but upon closer inspection it is hard not to see the natural beauty in this field of flowers. I know that I generally spend a lot of time here posting images of abandoned locations and historical landmarks here in Louisiana, but I thought that it would be a good change of pace to post some images of the natural beauty that can be enjoyed here in the Pelican State.   Check Out: Louisiana Through My Lens - Turbulent Skies Over Alexandria Louisiana Through My Lens - A Stormy Summer Afternoon At Clear Lake near Mansfield Louisiana Through My Lens - A Relaxing Afternoon at Dubuisson Lake Photo of the Day - A Stressless Life in Central Louisiana Find Your Quiet Place Where You Can P...

My Favorite Comics - Fantastic Four #91 October 1969 "The Thing Enslaved!"

Th Fantastic Four have always been my favorite super heroes and one of favorite issues from the silver age is issue 91 published in October of 1969. I love the cover with The Thing being harassed by what appears to be prohibition era gangsters. I guess it kinda reminds me of the classic Star Trek episode 'A Piece of the Action'. Here is a synopsis of the issue from Marvel Comics: On the planet Kral, a world whose culture is mirrored by the legendary 1930's mobster Machine Gun Martin who was captured and brought to the planet, Boss Barker makes a bet with his opponent Lippy Louie that his acquisition of the Thing will be able to defeat his best fighter, the Mekkan known as Torgo. While the Fantastic Four on Earth begin searching for their friend Ben, Ben himself is delivered into slavery at the hands of Boss Barker. Along the way Ben learns that the Skrull's of this planet adopted 1930's humanoid forms, inspired by Martin, and captured beings from other worlds to fi...

Noodles Grandiose Adventures! - Bumming Around Baton Rouge Louisiana

Friday - Today Noodles is chowing down on tacos from the Jack in the Box drive thru. Noodles says, "Best cheap munchies on the planet. There is something magical about these fried tacos. I think they put something addictive in em. Who cares! As long as they are still legal I'll still be eating them." Tuesday - Today Noodles is reflecting on American history inside a Revolutionary War cannon at the Louisiana State Capitol. Noodles says, "This cannon was used in the Battle of Baton Rouge in September 1779. It's made of iron and being inside it is like being inside an Easy Bake Oven. It's hot and I though I smelled something cooking ... and it was me!" Monday - Today Noodles is trying not to pass out from heat stroke in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Noodles says, "It's 93 degrees but the heat index is 117! It's hot enough to boil alligators in the Mississippi River homies!" Check Out: Noodles Grandiose Adventures! - Taking A Swim in Lake Ch...

Louisiana Through My Lens - Sardine Point/ The Cut Off in West Baton Rouge Parish

From the historical marker: Created by a meander of the Mississippi River in approximately A.D. 1300, this point of land has been known by many names - Manchac Point, Australia Point, Sardine Point and the "Cut Off." Settled by members of the Plaquemine Culture who built ceremonial mounds, it is also known as the Medora Site. By the 1780s, population of the area consisted of plantations with French, Spanish and Acadian inhabitants. After the 1780s, a thriving self-supporting community with homes, a school, a Catholic church and stores grew around the plantations. Following the Flood of 1927, a new levee built at the neck of the peninsula cut off the point and dispersed inhabitants. Until the late 1980s, many families resided in the "Cut Off." Stories of those who lived here are treasures in the hearts of many whose ancestors formed the community which was once a wonderful place to live. Abandoned Louisiana: Murray Gins in Caddo Parish

Last week while traveling down Highway 1 from Shreveport to Natchitoches I spotted a couple of interesting locations to photograph but unfortunately heavy traffic on the road made it hard to be able to pull over. Luckily for me this week there was little to no traffic so being able to maneuver around and find a place to pull over was much easier. The first location was an old cotton gin facility. The sign on one of the buildings read Murray Gins so I assumed that was the name of the company that ran this particular gin. I did an extensive search of the internet this morning and I could find absolutely no information about a Murray Gins operating in Caddo Parish. The only information that I was able to find was that Murray Gins was founded in 1900 in Dallas, Texas and that they operated cotton gins all over the country. There was no information about when the company went out of business, so I really can't make any kind of guess to when this particular gin may have closed down. Like...

Linda Harrison Taking a Break on The Planet of the Apes

As you can see I'm still spending a good chunk of my free time sifting through the hundreds of old movie photos looking for interesting images to share with everyone. Today I stumbled upon a set of rare photos from the set of the 1968 science fiction classic Planet of the Apes. I actually have quite a few of these so I decided to try and focus on a set that feature the lovely actress Linda Harrison who played Nova.
