The film was a take on other movies that had featured size-changing humans, like The Amazing Colossal Man and The Incredible Shrinking Man, but with a woman as the protagonist. The story follows the plight of Nancy Archer, a wealthy heiress whose close encounter with an enormous alien being causes her to grow into a giantess. She then uses her new size and power to seek revenge against her philandering husband Harry and his mistress, Honey Parker.
The film begins with a TV announcer reporting sightings of a floating red ball around the world. We then meet Nancy Archer, a troubled, wealthy woman who is speeding through the desert at night, fleeing her problems. A glowing ball appears on the highway, and a giant reaches for Nancy, but she is able to get away. No one believes her story, though, due to her drinking problem and past institutionalization.

Nancy's husband Harry is more interested in his mistress Honey than helping his wife. He pretends to be the caring husband, hoping Nancy will "snap" and go back to the mental institution. Nancy convinces Harry to search the desert with her, and they find the alien spacecraft. As the giant alien emerges, Harry flees, leaving Nancy behind.
Nancy is later found on the roof of her pool house, sedated by her doctor. Harry plans to give her a lethal injection, but when he goes to her room, he finds she has grown into a giantess. The sheriff and Nancy's butler explore the alien's ship and discover it needs diamonds, perhaps for fuel. The giant alien returns and attacks them, but they make it back to town.
Nancy breaks free and, determined to find her husband, stomps off to town, tearing the roof off a bar and killing Honey when a beam falls on her. Nancy picks up Harry, but the sheriff shoots at her, accidentally hitting a power line transformer. The explosion kills Nancy, with Harry crushed in her hand.
This thrilling 1950s sci-fi film offers an entertaining take on the size-changing human trope, with a powerful female protagonist seeking revenge against her unfaithful husband and his mistress. The special effects and storyline make it a classic of the genre.
