Since my wife and I moved to Louisiana we have had to learn to live without many of the things we enjoyed in California. One of those things is the diversity of food that was easily accessible within a few minute drive from our home. There was any variety of restaurants that served everything from Thai, Indian, Chinese, Japanese to many types of Mexican themed culinary delights. You could also get good old Italian or a great steak and baked potato if you wanted it of course.
Out of all of those types of foods that I miss the one that truly stands out is Hawaiian food. There simply isn't anything like it here in the South. Oh how my mouth waters for some Chicken Katsu, Kalua Pork or simply some Spam Musubi garnished with sides of Macaroni Salad, White Rice and Cabbage.
As most Californians know, if you want great Hawaiian food you go Ono Hawaiian BBQ. The food there is inexpensive, fast and delicious.
It was always the Chicken Katsu that was our favorite. It wasn't simply the fine pieces of breaded chicken that made the meal, it was the combination of the meat and the signature Katsu Sauce that made the experience something that you would find yourself craving.
In regards to Spam Musubi it's literally Spam Sushi. A slab of Spam on rice wrapped in seaweed, which you would think would be something weird but it actually works.
From the Ono Hawaiian BBQ website:
