Traveling around Louisiana I have discovered a lot of abandoned things ranging from buildings to boats but I never thought that I would find an abandoned section of road in the middle of a city.
Back in June of 2022 the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development closed Linwood Street between Texas and Dalzell Street because they determined that the bridge over the Kansas City Southern railroad tracks was no longer structurally sound enough to support daily traffic.
A couple of weeks back I took the chance that the bridge would be sound enough to support my 200 pound body and ventured out over the deserted road to take photos of any trains that may perhaps pass underneath.
I have to admit that it is kinda surreal to walk down the middle of a four lane road without any fear of being run over by a truck load of Amazon purchases. Before long the headlight of the train could be seen and soon the thundering mass of a large powerful consist of diesel locomotives and rolling stock was rounding the curve in front of my vantage point.
If you aren't creeped out by isolated areas or phobic about bridge collapses I would recommend the area for its solitude and great vantage point for observing and photographing trains.
I would assume that if the bridge wasn't safe enough for foot travel there would be some sort of sign stating such. Then again this is Louisiana, so ...

Visually there are a lot of stunning contrasts and as a photo journalist walking around the city provides tons of opportunities to capture some thought provoking images. I spent a brief time in downtown Shreveport this week and I got a ton of really great pictures. - READ MORE
Last week I drove over the Red River bridge from Bossier City into downtown Shreveport and I noticed a very interesting building to my right. The historic structure looked like some sort of old burlesque house or something like that. I could see on the front of the building were two illustrations of a couple of ladies that looked like they stepped right out of Cabaret. - READ MORE
