In this case, it's kind of cool and really, really weird all at the same time
Last week a strange little video entitled Star Wars 1923 appeared in my Facebook feed. Being a big Star Wars I decided to give it a look. A mere two minutes later I found myself staring blankly at my screen wondering just what in the heck I had just witnessed.
My eyes had just been subjected to a series of fast moving images of some sort of Star Wars/Silent Movie mashup that is nothing short of a mind-bender.
From what I have been able to find out from a Google search, Star Wars 1923 is a AI generated short film made by a graphic designer named Douggy Pledger using something called Midjourney. I can only assume that from what is seen in the film Pledger used AI to render Star Wars characters and vehicles over existing stock footage from old silent era films. The result is actually very interesting.
That is, until it goes completely off the rails.
About halfway trough the film things take a strange turn and the cool Star Wars themed images give way to scenes of men kissing Yoda, Chewbacca using crack and Darth Water riding a skate board and pushing a shopping cart around. To make matters worse there are silent movie esque title cards inserted between scenes loaded with f-bombs.
To sum it up, Star Wars 1923 could have been a true piece of art if Pledger had simply stuck to the theme and made a straight forward homage. Alas, he didn't and after looking at some of his other work on X, I'm honestly not surprised. To be honest it is some of the most horrifying, and truly disgusting, video you will ever lay eyes on. Compared to that, Star Wars 1923 is rather mild-mannered entertainment.
Because of the bad language I opted not to embed the video here, but If you want to see Star Wars 1923 it is easy to find on Youtube.
The images in Star Wars 1923 fly by pretty fast so I took the time to make some screen captures.
